Default 400 air cleaner base

is the air cleaner base from a 403 taller that one from a 400? trying to fit the shaker and it sits too high. the car had a 403 and is now a 400. stock manifold and carb.

The 403 shaker is taller than a 400 shaker base will not inter change.

thanks for the info do you know how much lower the 400 air cleaner is? I think im going to try to modify one of the bases that I have

All of the 403 aircleaner bases not only are a different depth, but the carb mounting flange is offset. Needing a a late '70's T/A aircleaner base for a traditional Pontiac engine, often easier to sell off the Olds base, & purchase the correct '77-78 400 or '78-79 W72 400 base.
