I have the chance to buy an 81 Recaro T/A tomorrow and was wondering what would be a decent price to pay.
Its been sitting since 89 in an enclosed garage. It needs paint and body work, but is not too bad. The original wheels are gone. The 301 is rebuilt with 17K on it, with 92k on the body. The Recaro interior is in real good shape, but the passenger side seat bolster needs to be fixed on the seat frame itself. The headrests are not ripped. Has brand new red rug in the box. Has its mirrored T-tops. How much is the car itself worth? Should I restore it, or should I buy it for parts? Is a rebuilt 301 turbo worth anything?

If it's the same one I saw in Waltham back in the late 80's he had roasted the tires until they blew! Seriously I saw it parked in the driveway on Lexington Street near the intersection of Totten Pond Road and the rear tire looked like it was down to the cords - all sorts of tire debris on the quarter too.
Come to think of it there was a dark green 77 or 78 4spd Formula in the same neighborhood.

No, it's not that one. It's in tough shape though. Can't decide if it's worth it or not.

81's did not come with mirrored tops. i would think if the body isn't too rusty 3k-3500 would be a decent price if it runs ok.

Well I just got done looking at it.
The rear floors are crusty. The car starts with starter fluid. The dash corners are rotted. The interior is actually really nice except the passenger seat bottom has rotted out. The material is perfect. I really just want the seats out of it, but I don't know how to fix the passenger side.

I would just chop it up. I beat him down to $1200, but Im still unsure of it. He'll throw in a new GM hood bird, but I have no idea what that's worth. If it was me I'd rather have a repo bird.
