Default Could someone post pic of engine mount that fit 1979 Pontiac Trans Am with 400

I think that I may have the wrong engine mounts and it is giving me problems with installing headers on my 1979 Pontiac TA/SE 4speed car with 400 Pontiac.

Could someone post a couple pics of the correct engine mounts for one?

Sometimes the headers are the problem. I have an ever so small interference with the clutch linkage on my 79 4speed that has hooker competition headers. I also had header interference with a shift linkage in a 79 403 auto car I used to own...needed to bend the primary tubes on that one.

The engine mount doesn't fit the mount on the crossmember even without the headers in place so something is wrong with the mounts for sure.

Had problems when removing a '70 400 to install a later 455 on Father-In-Law's '77 TA. The '70 block had those aftermarket adapter brackets for early blocks in later chassis. The 455 came from some full-size station wagon. We could shove the cross-bolt through either one of the clamshell cushions, but not both bolts.

Discovered that the F-body uses shorter brackets than the full-size cars from the block to the "clamshell" rubber cushion.

Bought proper F-body block-to-cushion brackets, and all was well.

I had real problems installing my last engine to the frame mounts. The 6 inch bolts would never go all the way though. I struggled for 2 days, then I loosened the mounts on the engine so there was some "play" and solved the problem.

The engine actually going into the car is a 1975 Pontiac 455.

I finally got them in and this is how I did it. I took the 3 bolts out of the engine block mount and then put the long bolt into the mount...and then lined up the other 3 bolts by moving the engine as needed as I did not have the trans mount crossmember bolted up yet.

Thanks for the input guys! I now have to see if I can bolt up the Dougs headers while the engine mount bolts are in place.
