I'm in need of a correct air cleaner assembly, base and cover, for my '62 4 cyl., 4 barrel carb. Tempest.
Thanks. Jim Last edited by Jim Pennell; 08-24-2014 at 04:19 PM. Reason: misspelling |

Jim, i have a few air cleaners that I'm not sure go to what. Is there a picture of what you're looking for somewhere so I can check for you?

4 barrel, 4 cylinder. Is this what you need? Removed from a 1962 Tempest.

Greg,
what is with all the holes drilled into the base of the air cleaner? Gary |

I assume that the holes are factory stamped. There are 2 holes in the side where the bracket bolts go into. The holes, on the base, are to uniform to be drilled.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than will chime in here. I don't have one of these cars. Thanks, Greg |

I have a 63 Tempest wagon with a transplanted 326ci 4 barrel engine. The air cleaner assembly is like yours....it has holes in the lower plate. I thought someone must have got happy with a hole bit in a drill. Since seeing your air cleaner, it seems the factory may have stamped the holes.

Some of the holes are not centered and I would expect factory stamping be the same all around, that is why I questioned it. I asked a buddy of mine with a factory 4bbl set up on his 62 Lemans to check his air cleaner for the holes.

He said his has the same design with all the holes and he too wondered if it was done by the factory. It must be. Learn something new about these cars all the time.

the holes are centered-its an optical illusion (shadows can cause that)
