Hello everyone, a friend of mine told me about the Ram Air II Roll Call, and talked me into typing in.
I do have a 1968 1/2 Ram Air II GTO that I have owned since 1981. I bought it for myself on the day before my High School Graduation party. I have had PHS confirmed it, as I found the build sheet on top of the gas tank and in good shape. the color is Verdoro Green with a black vinyl top. It is a 4 spd car, as ordered with 4:33 gears and manual brakes with disc up front. Also manual steering, with a wood steering wheel and wood shift knob. Also an AM radio. It was raced by Johnson Speed shop in Lansing Michigan, as the lettering was on the car, under the paint when the guy bought it from, saved it as he bought it sitting in front of a junkyard on Dort Hwy in Flint Mi. He restored it, painted it and put a 455ci. engine in it as it did not have an engine or transmission in the body when he bought it. The odometer has only 24,332 miles on it. I am sure that were hard miles on it many times down the strip. It was my dream car as it looks exactly like that Pontiac ad that they used on Woodward, "you know the rest of the story". Seeing that I live just about 7 miles east of Royal Oak and Woodward Ave. it is my dream to complete it and drive it down the Woodard Cruise, while laying down some long black strips.

Thanks for telling us about your RamAir II GTO Rick .
![]() Thats a very small club of ownership. Could you please share a posted copy of your Buildsheet with us for archives ? No one else has posted a Buildsheet to a Ram Air II car yet . GTOwolf says he has his, but he must still be having problems posting. PHS Billing History Cards are always welcomed too ! And of course any vintage pics. Thanks again for adding yours to our list. We are about to catch up with the PHS total. |

Welcome to PY and to the Ram Air II Roll Call - it's a VERY small club!
![]() BTW was the brother's car in Florida an Alpine Blue automatic? I bought an XW motor out of Ocala back in 1990 or 1991.

Yes this car went from the factory to the whole sale factory dealer in Pontiac. From talking with someone that worked for Pontiac he said a lot of these cars were used for road test's or to promote the new option or options. He says he remembered this car as one of them...true or false???? I don't know why he would lie...lol I have been trying to track down a magazine that had a black 681/2 Ram Air car in it comparing the fresh air induction of the 68 Muscle Cars Dodge Chevy etc Anyone remember that Mag??? Pictures to come soon Thank you this is one heck of a club!!!

The guy that bought this car from the action sold it to his friend that lives in Chicago. The reason I know this is he was wanting to buy my car. I was a rude seller and stopped answering my phone after a while,I feel bad about that. I know his name and will not post out if respect to him. This car has a service replacement block in it and was produced on 5/27/68. I have copy PHS paper work and will post soon. Car was also made in Pontiac Mich a few days before mine

What type of rally stripe would this have been ...the guy I bought the car from in 76 said it had that white stripe on the hood like the 69 cars had. He didn't like it so he had the hood painted

The '68 Rally Stripe was a double pinstripe along the lower body style line running from front bumper to the rear bumper. Hardly noticeable at first glance. I don't know of any factory hood stripe.

In the past as we all know you could get about any option on any car that you wanted. My car being manufactured for the Pontiac factory retail store could have came with just about any option offered to the public or not

One would think a promo car or factory test car would be earlier than the release to public cars?
But, promo and RA II introduction/end wasn't Pontiacs best moments...

My father said that there was a big push on the "all new" ram air GTO in mid 1968 in the Cincinnati zone office where he was a district sales rep.

You could of course get any option you wanted but that's not the same as getting any thing you wanted. Not saying I know everything but if there was a hood stripe, I've never heard of it or seen it anywhere...that's '68 OR '69. Just not sure what stripe you're talking about. Anyone else?

Just would like to more history on my car the owner said it had that white Rally stripe on the hood ..can't remember his name or the second owners name other then his first name was John from Keego Harbor Mich a city by Pontiac. From what I was told by them was it had that same rally stripe on it as the 69 Ram Air V blue GTO..Fiebirds had the same one also as an option.

Sounds like you are talking about the Royal Bobcat treatment on the '68/'69? That's a bit more than a Rally Stripe. Custom paint job overall including the entire trunklid and lower body.
Anyway, no matter. I'm no expert. Maybe there was a factory applied '68 Rally Hood stripe that I've never heard of or seen...but I'd like to see one.

The Royal Bobcat treatment was done at Royal? Not a factory applied paint scheme.
