1962 xo heads
so i now have a set of "xo" stamped 177's and a set of "oo" stamped 177's, then numerous non stamped sets. what is the difference in the oo stamps vs the xo stamps?
anyone know? thanks sam

From McCarthy's book (page 32) there is this statement:
"NOTE: Cast #536109 heads with 10.75 C.R. are identified with a stamped "X" just above and left of the casting number. Heads with H.D. valve springs (425A) are stamped "O" above and right of the casting number. This method was used from 1958 through 1962." May be a clue? |

Yup, they sound like 425A heads. The original ones on my car had the same markings. Unfortunately they had a bunch of cracks, so I replaced them with regular compression heads.
