Guys, I've finally got my car painted but the only good decklid I had was from a Tempest. Can anyone tell me where to drill the holes for the bottom trim and GTO logo? Anyone have a spare laying around to measure off of? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the Lemans/GTO trunk lid trim? (getting hard to find)

If you do, the bottom edge of the trim should match the bottom edge of the trunk lid. Since the 'clips' slide back and forth in the trim, your left/right measurements are not critical. I believe the trim has 6 clips that use 'acorn' nuts on the underside of the trunk lip. (speed nuts will work)

So 3 holes per side (half) and make the bottom edges the same. The trim is to match the tail light bezels, as the trim line continues onto the trunk lid from the tail lights. (make sense?)

Thanks, that's what I figured on the bottom trim. I have the piece but I only have 2 or 3 clips with the studs on them. Anyone have a source for replacement clips and acorn nuts? or a suitable sub on the clips.

I still would like some help with the GTO logo holes.

My original Nov. built Fremont '64 GTO has 8 holes for the bottom trim, 4 to either side of the lock cylinder/decklid centerline.

Crudely measured 5/16" up from lower edge to hole center. Only measured one, so assume they are uniform. Measured on outside of decklid.

The holes are NOT spaced uniformly center to center.

Can't look at the trim, but I'm guessing the studs are movable so center to center spacing not critical. I see that Tempest confirms that idea.

I measured 2nd one in from the right at 8-7/16" center to center but others seem to range between 8" and 9".

The right side hole was about 1-1/16" from the panel side edge to the hole center.

The left side hole was about 1", maybe a tad less from the panel side edge to the hole center.

The GTO nameplate holes:

The right side hole is 6-3/16" from the panel edge to the hole center.

The 2 holes are 3-5/8" center to center (check against the stud spacing on the nameplate).

The surface on which the nameplate mounts measures 3" from upper crease to lower crease.

The hole centers are 1-3/16" UP from the lower crease (the crease position is hard to define but I'm guessing the holes were punched below center of that surface so that the GTO lettering is more or less centered on the panel surface between the creases when installed, but just guessing).

Don't know if the hole measurements were same at all plants or throughout the year.

I suspect so, since it is likely that one supplier provided material to multiple plants (or a couple suppliers of the same design).

Otherwise, any design changes would have to be coordinated across the various pieces.

Thanks John. That info really helps. Now I need to track down some mounting clips/studs. I'm hoping there are more in the bottom of my various coffee cans of hardware.

Never seen one with 6 holes only 8 - each end uses SS Philips screws into the clips the rest use acorn nuts on studs .

They were 8 to a box for around $5.00, For those who need them for the trim piece I am using them for, the threads that protrude through the trunk lip do look slightly long and may need to be cut or ground off, so they don't interfere when closing the trunk lid.

I'm stripping my car down for a frame off and just took the deck lid trim off. It's a February built Fremont car. The measurement from the left edge is 1" to the center of the first hole, 9 5/8" to the second, 17 1/2" to the third and 25 1/32 to the fourth. From the right side the first hole is 1" on center from the edge, the second is 9 11/32 from the edge, the third 17 1/2" and the fourth 26 3/16. All holes were 1/4" on center from the bottom edge of the lid.
