I'M BAAACK!!!!
Been a while, since I've been here folks
Looking like I might be trading my 92 Twin Turbo Firebird I built Far a 1970 Tempest project.. Supposedly the car is a T-37 car. I'm thinking about paying the PHS for the car. but from what I'm hearing so far..... There's really no way to know for sure, since most T-37's were done at the dealer?

i'm no expert but I think "T37" was a new name for "Tempest"; an entry level "A" body; still cool tho..
perhaps you meant "GT37"? I don't think they made those till 71? anyways...welcome back. |

Welcome back and to the T-37 club. I have a '70 WS 4 bolt block w/caps that I may be persuaded to part with. Or maybe a '73 400 2 bolt block. Give me a call sometime. I hope to make the PDX swap meet this next year.

The car I'm trading for has (2) motors
A 350, and 400 The lower fender emblems say 350.. BUT.... I still love 428's!!! So I just might have to find a small journal crank, and some 428 slugs... We are trying to make the swap happen this Wednesday..

From what I've been able to learn so far.. Only around 1,100 GT-37 cars were ever made for 1970..
The car I'm getting is a Hardtop, of which approximately 20,000 were made vs the 11,000 cpes

Don't be confused by the year to year badging changes.
In '70, Pontiac offered the A body in 4 Model Series. The Tempest, Lemans, Lemans Sport, and GTO. The lowest priced series was the 33 Series Tempest, offered in two Body Styles, 2 Dr. post Coupe and 4 dr. Sedan. At mid year (Feb), PMD introduced a 2 dr. Hardtop Coupe in the Tempest Series and called it the Tempest T-37. Presumably the T stood for "Tempest" and the "37" referred to the fact that the 2 Dr. Hardtop Coupe was designated as Body Style 37. My recollection is fuzzy whether the T-37 badging was used in '70 except on the 2 dr. Hardtop Coupe. PMD may have begun to add T-37 badging to the 2 dr. post Coupe at the same time as the Hardtop Coupe was introduced. A short while later they also offered a special sport/appearance option for the Tempest T-37, the GT-37 Group option. When introduced in the spring, they allowed it as an option for both the Tempest T-37 2 dr. Hardtop Coupe and the 2 dr. post Coupe (Body Style 27). '71, they tinkered with the model names again, the Tempest nameplate was dropped altogether. The '71 low end model series was the T-37 and since it was applied to more than just the 2 dr. Hardtop Coupe, the designation origin was thoroughly blurred by then. I would say no '70 Tempest T-37 was "done at the dealer", would be little reason to do so except perhaps to "freshen" a 2 dr. post Coupe that was sitting on the lot awhile, if in fact newer post Coupe builds were coming thru with the added T-37 badging. I doubt that any '70 had the GT-37 package added at the dealer either. Perhaps some stripes and decals were added, but not the full package. The '70 GT-37 was kinda neat but except for the decals, badging, and factory hood pins, I think all of the package was available as individual options for any Pontiac A body. Unless yours shows evidence of the specific GT-37 items, likely it was built without that Group option. But since it is a 2 dr. Hardtop Coupe, it was definitely built as a Tempest T-37 and carried that badging from the factory since all of the Hardtop Coupes were so designated and badged from their Feb introduction. I believe a major motivation for the GT-37 option was to offer a "stealth" GTO that might have been cheaper to insure but appeal to the youth market with some added appearance pizzazz. it's pretty ghetto looking yet, 80's style pro street paint job, complete with "disco" velour cloth trim panels..
I'm supposed to take actual delivery of it tomorrow.. Once that happens, (and i figure out how) I'll definitely post a couple pics
