I bought some POR-15 exhaust manifold paint too and put it on some new manifolds(Thorntons) I got for the 403 Olds for my 79 TA. It may be a month or 2 until I run the engine with them. The exhaust heat will cure them.

I've used Eastwoods "stainless steel" exhaust coating for years and it worked pretty good. It was the brushable type that came in a pint or quart can, which I think holds up better than from a spray can. It'll be interesting to see if the POR product holds up even better.

Well, I couldn't stand it any longer. The front clip is still intact, but the A arms are not. New ball joints, bushings and bumpers are on the way, and there is a little more cleaning to do, but in the end this is best. It will be so much easier to get everything painted and looking sharp this way. Why stop now...

I think this thread is already corrupt, and I would love to have you post some pictures of your "stuff". I appreciate all the help and encouragement you have provided, and would love see some of the cars that have passed through your hands.

If you put some really good stuff up I might forgive you for convincing me that trying to remove and replace only one door hinge while leaving the other in place wasn't a "big deal". I still can't believe we found the hinge roller pin that fell out years ago when we removed the inner fender.

Fortunately my best friend is regional manager for large electric supply company. He was able to tap into the corporate database and dig out the details. Below is his email response. These fixtures were kind of pricey because I wanted the correct, somewhat vintage look and to get them I had to go with high end commercial fixtures. The bulbs are very key and I'm sure you can find something cheaper with the same lamp. The reflecter is also important and these have a kick butt reflector. Lastly, do a lighting layout using a calculator. They are available online if you don't have a buddy like I am lucky to have.

Part number is QS1P8FT254T5HOCG-ET5120NA with appropriate mounting hardware. Each 8’ fixture requires 4 - F54T5/850/HO-ALTO lamps.

You purchased these on 4-18-11 and they shipped about 6 weeks later. I would guess an up to date sell on this or a similar type fixture would be about $645.00 for one 8 foot fixture and 4 lamps. I didn’t check if they’re still available, but if not a similar looking fixture would be."

Well, it's like Christmas at Christmas time. The Brown Santa (UPS guy) showed up at the house today and he had so many boxes that he brought the dolly to the front door at which point my wife had him come right on in and leave the stack in the hallway. Four of the boxes were from SD Performance and I now have everything for the new motor, but the short block. SD sent the intake. cam, lifters, timing gear, valley pan, oil pump, windage tray, pushrods, distributor, balancer, gaskets.....In addition, Summit sent me the control arm bushings and bumpers. The ball joints and rivet head bolts should be here soon. The intake looks great. The difference between the CNC'd unit from SD and the original is pretty amazing.

We've got a big year end deal cooking at work, but I hope to make a lot of progress on blasting, painting and reassembly between now and the New Year. I don"t think the short block will make it, but there should be plenty to do.

The exhaust and intake ports were reworked and polished. I'll get some pictures up at some point.

Well, the Brown Santa struck again today and delivered a TV box that contained an FD code radiator. I'm pretty jacked as that was one of the last pieces that I needed to track down. It's in really good shape and even had the original radiator cap. It's only got one small dent in the left tank, but I'll get it boiled out and pressure tested, and if it checks out I'll just fill the dent with metal epoxy and sand it down.

I appreciate all the help and encouragement I have received from the folks on this forum, and would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. My family is coming over this evening to celebrate the occassion. My wife is making her traditional seafood stew (bouillabaisse) with lobster, scallops, shrimp and whitefish, and I have a beef loin ready for the smoker along with a few links of kielbasa

Well, there's always a few exceptions....I got a few pretty cool gifts this year for the garage. A couple of padded stools, a cart for all the buffing and detailing supplies, and a 5HP wall mounted vacuum with a 40' stretch hose. No work got done today, but I had a great time with my family. Back to the office tomorrow...

...and two to go. I'm pretty happy how easily the first two control arms cleaned up in the media blaster. Just two more to go. Also hope to get the springs and spindles blasted and painted this weekend. MPD thinks the bushings and ball joints need to be installed before the control arms get finish painted. Anyone have experience with this either before or after?

I think they were dip painted Bob with the ball joint end left bare. The earlier ones were but by 1978 that process may have changed so don't use my word as gold on this.
