The previous damage to the body was no where near as bad it sounded in the article. They did a great job of fixing all the cosmetic damage. It still retains all of its original sheet metal from the facory except the LF fender and radiator support. After verifying all the #'s and a thorough inspection we made a deal.

I'll post some current pics after I give it a good cleaning. It needs it!

These are pictures from the article years ago:
On the daily path to my old office not too far from NASA's JSC I remember stopping and looking at the car w FS sign on it before Joe's purchase and restoration...amazing job was done to resurrect it. Glad they saved it.

IIRC rear 1/4 and roof damage from telephone "pole dancing?" And was cover / feature car in HPP, yes? Love the color & drivetrain combo.

Congrats on your purchase.

Congrats on your new addition. Great looking car that you are bound to have a lot of fun with. We look forward to hearing more about it and seeing more pictures. You need to think about bringing it to the TA Nationals. Right now there are at least four 455 HO Formulas that should be there (Orange, Black, Silver and Copper) and a Monarch Yellow one would help round out the fleet. Now if maybe a Blue and White one would commit to showing up....

Here's a link to the HPP article on the car.

Thumbs up 72 Formula 455HO

Thanks for posting the link Bob. If anyone knows which issue of HPP the article was in, let me know. I have stack of HPP mags, but I could not find it. It might be May 2007. I cant find that issue.
I have a stash of extra 72 parts that will be perfect for this car. I'll eventually be putting on the correct crossflow exhaust system back on, and I'll replace the 74 radiator support with a correct 72. I have an original GM poly front valence, and a super nice original 72 LF fender for it.

Thanks for all the compliments and support guys! It is in good hands and I couldn't be happier to have it!

Just received my 455HO Banner and t-shirts from Pat Brown. Very nice stuff! Thanks Pat!

4birds,

I always liked the color combination and and that is one sweet ride. Handling package with the 15" Honeys. Its amazing how many Formulas were heavily optioned, it seems more were ordered that way than stripped racers. Formulas must have appealed to the executive type who thought the TA was to gaudy or flashy and wanted more color choice.

BWBob has a great idea to do a 455HO gathering at the TA Nats this year and all park together (I guess that is obvious since we'd be in the same class, but side by side).

Can't wait for August. I'm pretty sure a 4 speed Nordic Silver one is joining the crew!

Dennis, You have been through TA Nationals Tech so you know that you never know what class they will put you in. BWB had the wrong floor mats (according to NATS TECH EXPERTS) in the black car and they wanted to put him in MODIFIED. There was a survivor T/A last year that had a damaged hood stripe and because of that they DID put him in Modified. Good thing is I don't think they care about where you park till Sunday

That Nordic silver car seems to be PUMPED up this year to make the drive.

The Drive to and from the show is the best part. Running the cars through those small hic towns is way cool. It is like a parade every where we go

Craig,

If I leave the rubber top on the car, I wonder if the techs will notice, or know it is not a true factory color and grain. Probably not, but if they do, I'll be put in Modified class as well. I don't care as long as we all can park together on Saturday and cruise to Tipp City as a parade like Brew said. That is the flaky thing about TA Nats, its a great time and show (for a static one), but the knowledge of the judges/tech guys isn't...I'm looking for a nice word, or rather, not what you'd expect for a "national" event. And that is OK as long as they are reasonable when teching and disagreeing. So far they have been when we presented evidence or superior knowledge (ha, ha).

Craig, you know we don't hold your owning a TA against you and we'll let you park near us and maybe let you sit in one of our Formulas (just kidding).

Brew is so right, the drive down and back is so fun on the twisty roads we found. Brew get that Silver car together!

Mike, your car is a ready right? I'm sure BWBob's is.

VERY nice car in a great color combo. The yellow works well with black interior and black top. This is one where car looks vastly better WITH top than it would without, IMO. Very classy look, and the out of the norm color is fantastic. Handling package, honeycombs, high option car, great colors, and HO = Home Run.
