461 stroker, Butler 310 E-heads, Crower solid roller 248/254, RPM intake, 870 holley, 373 gears. Exhaust as stated previously. It now has a 4L80E in it instead of the 2004R, and a more refined tune. (Runs much better)
I like the Goelich mufflers, they sound great (to me), no drone, and flow pretty good. They are acceptably quiet at normal operation, and get kinda loud when you get into it. They do wear out though, and are due for a replacement now. .

These are a couple of old videos that I did before I started restoring the car but it gives a good comparison between Flowmaster 40s and the Dynomax VTs. The car is a 65 GTO with a 69 428 bored 30 over, E heads ported, Ultradyne 280/288, Edelbrock intake and 800 carb.

I have since replaced them with Dynomax Ultra Flow SS and these are a very good choice, sorry no video but they are between the VTs and 40s on the highway. This last video is the engine after I rebuilt it, I had to add it in for anyone interested. It is after we did the break in run and were adjusting the idle and seeing how it responded. Same engine bored 40 over, RaceTec flat top pistons (raised compression to a hair over 10:1), more work to the heads with some milling, nearly zero decked the block (not quit), Edelbrock RPM intake matched to the heads, 1976 Quadrajet (thanks B-Man) rebuilt to match the engine, Lunati VooDoo 60903 cam, Harland Sharp Roller Rockers, Butler Performance Pushrods, 62 SD421 connecting rods, and the lifters are Hy-lift Johnson/Made In The USA lifters from Butler Performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKi96nU0W0o Dale |

Those Dynomax VT's had a nasty cackle to them ! Love it. I can see how that low rpm rattle would tend to bother you.

This is of my '67. Pypes 2.5" stainless pipes with X-pipe. Racepro mufflers, log manifolds, unknown cam but I think it's a standard 335hp cam.

461 Ported 62's 290b cam. This is a real cold start up as it was 20 some degrees here. 3 1/2 dougs x pipe with flowmaster cone reducers after the X to 3" Pypes M80 mufflers dumped at the axle.

That wagon sounds nasty. Are the M80 a glass packed muffler? I love how it has the pop to the exhaust. I've been thinking of using the magna flow magnapack on my next vehicle but I havnt heard it on many classics.

Carlo, Cherry Bombs have a great sound. Subtle at idle and not overbearing like some of the others. And when you back out of it, especially going down a hill, they have a great popping sound. I've got them on my 66 GTO and love them. A couple of other guys near me have even changed over to them.

Yeah I have been looking at videos of some of the packed mufflers like that the pypes and magnapack. They all sound about the same so I guess the deciding factor will come down to price and which ones are the smallest so I can get them up under a 74 firebird.

here is a vid of my 366 RA V NASCAR engine in 69 bird.1K RPMs,2 1/2 with H pipe and Hushpower mufflers.Have them on my 421 63 Lemans also.They are small and much quieter than the flomaster I replaced.No issue listing to my radio and no drone like the flos.Love them.Tom

I've been in a car with a complete Pypes exhaust system and I couldn't stand the noise going down the road. I couldn't even talk with the driver, let alone hear myself think. I think he was even sorry he had it but wouldn't admit it.
So if you want noise and want to go deaf too, then go with Pypes. Tinnitus ain't no fun.

New 461 230/236 112 cam RPM intake Hedman 1 3/4" headers 2000 stall I am taking her to the muffler shop this week for 2.5" pipes no x or h into 40 series flowmasters exit behind rear tire. These videos are with the 2 1/4" pipes into 40 series flowmasters that I had on it with the 326 engine we just removed. First time out since new engine, th400, disc brakes and AGR quick ratio steering. It's a whole new car, Fun Times! Not sure on the specs of the motor except that it is the 400 that the car was born with. the previous owner put the exhaust on himself with a kit from a manufacturer I cannot think of the name of right now.
