Yes there were stripe delete Judges built. Also a few regular GTO's were built with the spoiler, but very very few. PHS will tell the story on the car in question.

What was RPO# on a regular GTO with spoiler?

I had a non Judge 69 in high school, that had the factory spoiler. This was 1977, so I'm thinking it was ordered that way. Even the trunk springs were set up for it.

doubtful it was factory, i have not seen a rpo # for a 69 firebird or gto rear spoiler, also in 1977 i had 69 trans am side scoops, rear wing, and hood on my factory 69 400 bird, because a real 69 trans am had been t boned and was in the wrecking yard, by the mid 70s there were tons of all kinds of now rare, but then just cool high performance parts floating all around from salvage.

The rear spoiler was available as an accessory package for any GTO. I'm
not certain that any were installed on the assembly lines or if the cars were shipped
without them installed and the dealer put them on. The part numbers on the accessory packages
were 988719 for the hardtop and 988718 for the convertible. The packages came with all necessary hardware and a template for drilling the holes and instructions.

If it was dealer-installed, it would need documentation to prove it's correct; otherwise, it's just another incorrect add-on because I don't believe the spoiler was offered as an accessory.

X2. I also don't believe you ever could get it dealer installed. You could buy one yourself and do it but I've never ever seen or heard of one with paperwork.

RPO for a spoiler would be D80 but not available as a separate option

I think if that was the case one would have surfaced after chasing these cars for over 35 years..

Imagine how many people, after seeing the first Judges on the street, went back to their dealer and ordered that rear wing. Not available from the factory, there was no option code. It was exclusive to the 1969 Judge and 1969 Trans Am.

Listed as an accessory through the dealer.

Many years ago I parted a late production 70 GTO convertible that was ordered like a Judge including the wing on the PHS. I have seen it as a factory option on 71-72 cars but never on a 69 and only this above mentioned 70. (If i recall correctly it was a very late production July 70).

I'm sure they sold 5 wings over the counter for every one actually sold on a judge. My friend bought a 69 GTO convertible new and the day he saw his first Judge he went to the dealer and ordered a wing and installed it himself.

Bear in mind that a 69 tempest and a 69 GTO are equally correct or incorrect having a wing depending how you view it. I'll be honest, I hate the look of a wing on a non-judge.

A long time ago I read an article about wings, missing on Judge models.
The story went that wings were put in the trunk as they left the factory, to be installed later at the dealership. It went on that parts were being put in the trunk to be retrieved later and resold. So somebody decided to inspect trunks before departure, and a few wings were confiscated at the gate.
Now how much truth to that I dunno.
Were all wings installed at the dealership or just some years or what ???

I'd be surprised, they are pretty big so the chance of paint damage while in the trunk is substantial, water would get in the trunk from the holes and if theft was the concern you'd need to get in the trunk either way.

a thought that came to mind--

I believe that the trunk holes were punched by the factory on a Judge so they are more round than a drilled hole. Is that everyone's understanding?
