Probably no long term issue. A new ignition cylinder with 2 keys is like 11 bucks.

Yes, exactly. Stuff wears out with time and use. Replace cylinder, problem solved!

Used to a "feature" that some of us folks would have, and also modify into follow-on Pontiacs.
I stopped doing that since my last racecar would drop the keys during the 60foot passage. Distracting & tiresome so no more. |

Mine does the same. I like it though.

I keep forgetting that you 68 guys have it in the dash. I haven't had a dash ignition gm vehicle that DIDN'T let you take the keys out. Love that 68 dash more than 69s for sure.

I have had a problem with my 68 for the last several years. There is a space in the fuse box that has no fuse in it. It is not labled, but I think it is the one on the bottom. Anyway the car runs great and all things work as they should. However, when I put a fuse in this spot the car will not quit running. You can turn the key off and take it out, and she is still running like the switch is still on. Have to put it in a gear and choke it down[4-speed]. Take the fuse out and everthing is good again. Anybody ever ran into this?
