Default 1969 gto interior

I was wondering if back in 1969 the gto could have the gold interior with a blue exterior

The 69 Mustard Gold interior has a lot of green in it. I suspect it would look awful with any of the blue exteriors which is why no blues were recommended with that interior. I considered a color change on my 69 Bonneville which had the gold leather interior (identical color to the GTO gold interior). It was pretty obvious that you had to avoid any Blues, silver, reds, Champagne (even though it was recommended) etc. The only colors I could see with a 69 gold interior were : black, gold, brown, white, Verdoro and midnight green and surprisingly Carousel Red.

A color you rarely see on GTO's today is Silver (Palladium), especially with a blue or red interior. Soft Ray glass really enhanced the look.

Yeah, it's not quite "gold" - it's more "tan."

But tan is a relatively neutral color, so for one of the stranger combos, it works. I think red/tan is a much more common combination that actually works (and may be recommended), which is why Carousel Red works. Here's a similar combo.

Palladium Silver is not quite a rare color for 1970, and I do think black and red interiors are likely the most popular, but I do see blue from time to time.

Of course, your results may vary!

If I'm not mistaken, the blue with gold/tan interior was a fairly common combo for late 2nd gen F-Bodies.

That's the way I'm picturing it but just going from memory, yes, gold hood bird, stripes, etc..
I mean, if you think about it, blue and gold complement each other pretty well IF they are the right shades and on the right car.
Just look at all the schools that use them together..

Greg, my college team name is BluGolds. hahaha. I don't exactly know what a BluGold is supposed to be, but that's what we had!

I went through all my blue GTO pics and no gold guts. I also went through all the blue cars in my nearly 700 69 GTO PHS's and no gold interiors (along with Warwick, liberty and windward I also checked CT).

I really can't over emphasize that the 69 gold interior has a lot of green (like oxidized copper) and really really doesn't work with blue colors!

Get our host to send you a swatch (of the vinyl not the trim paint which is way off) and lay it against blue cars.
