Default 1973 Fuel Tanks

Is the fuel tank on the 1973 Grand Am the same tank that is in the 1973 Le Mans?

No. The Grand Prix/Grand Am tank is 25 gallon capacity. The LeMans tank is 21.8 gallon capacity.

then i guess the next question is--obviously the sending units are different yes? then since they are the same body, one could swap a GA tank/sending unit into a lemans and have a 25 gallon capacity.

The GA/GP tank uses different sending units and mounting straps. If you swap everything over, then you can have a 25 gallon tank in a LeMans or GTO.

I purchased a new GA 25 gallon tank w neck attached and straps from QUANTA for our 1973 Grand Am.

At the time, they showed no 25 gallon '73 Grand Am tanks in their database...I had to inform them of the use of the GP tanks same in the GAs was correct. They tried to talk me out of it.

There was also some issue with them not listing the straps, but after my research, and input from the A-Body website, I gave them specs of their inventory I wanted...which I received.

Default 1974 GA tank?

I have a 74Grand Am with a leak in the bottom of the tank. I can't find a tank listed for it. Is the 74 Grand Prix tank the same? I assume so based on this post but wanted to make sure. Is there a brand preference? Thanks Rick

The tank itself is the same. The neck is different. The brand to get is Spectra Premium available at Autozone. The 25 gallon tank w/o neck is part number GM4D for $125. The GP tank with the neck already installed is part number GM473D for $170. The neck listed for the 1974 GP is GM73 and is listed at 16" long for $29. The neck listed for the 1974 LeMans/GA is FN16 and is listed at 13.25" long for $25. Measure your original neck to ensure the best fitment possible.

I've been watching this topic for a while but still need a little help. I have a 73 GA and I'm sure the the tank I need is GM4D, but what would be the part number for the filler neck? I have a 19 inch neck but I haven't seen any reference to that part number. Any help would be appreciated.

FN72 is the Spectra part number for the 19 inch neck for the 1973 models. They sell the tank with the FN72 neck installed which is GM472D. It is listed on their site as fitting a 1973 GP. They do not list any tanks for a 1973 Grand Am.

Notes: Dimensions in Inches--39 3/4 x 26 1/2 x 10, Gallons--25, Liters--95, Notes--FILLER NECK FN72 INSTALLED

I installed one of them on my '73 GA and the fit was excellent.

Need a little more help. I bought the GM472D tank for my 73 GA and the ST09 straps. But the straps seem to be too big. I have the tank against the trunk floor and there is about a 1 to 1 1/2 gap between the tank and the straps. Did I get the wrong straps and can anyone advise the right part number? They can't tighten up to the tank. Got these at O'Reillys.

ST09 is indeed the correct part number per the various parts sites. Do your originals fit?

Sorry, been out of town. I had to cut one of the originals off so I only have one and the new ones I just bought are bigger than the original. I might be able to have it modified to fit using the old one as a template. Any other thoughts?

I would shorten them using the original as a template...Or take them back and reorder. You might have received the wrong ones.

They were marked with the correct number, but that doesn't mean too much. I just took them to a friend of mine that has a machine shop and should have them back Monday. Seems like this is easier than back and forth trips to the parts store.
