Therefore, I did the next best thing and sent it to Kaufmann Racing with MPD and his sidekick Roger to do the dirty deed. The report back was very encouraging and I am happy to announce that we have given birth to a healthy and strong stroked W72. First of all, MPD said that Jeff Kauffman and his brother Mark (?) are a completely class act. He and Roger were treated like special guests and given the royal treatment. They had the run of the facility and were extremely impressed by the quality of work that was going in in the middle of a cornfield. Dave could not say enough about the quality of the CNC work being done on the KRE heads. Thanks very much Jeff and Mark. Now to the really important stuff. The engine fired on the second bump and there was little drama or problems. There is a small water pump gasket leak that needs fixed, and the thermostat was stuck and did not work. Other than that it was smooth sailing. The carb was dialed in from the start with a custom kit that Cliff supplied based on the engine specs, and which Dave installed when he rebuilt the carb. No problems with the distributor either. The numbers were peak HP of 474 at 5100 rpm on pull #6 and peak torque of 549 at 3600 rpm on pull # 5. I am very happy with these numbers and can't wait to get the engine in the car and burning rubber... Here's a few pictures.

Yeah, I am really pleased with the results, especially for a bone stock looking, iron head d-port with correct intake and carb. The Kauffman guys said their heads would be good for an additional 100 HP.

So the engine is in. In fact. the engine, transmission and driveshaft are installed and bolted in. Get the clutch hooked up, and get the starter and exhaust manifolds installed, and the bottom side is mostly done except for some wiring and plumbing. Things went very smoothly and not much got scratched up, and nothing got smashed or dented. The hardest thing was getting the left motor mount bolt in and biting thread. That and finding the flywheel bolts. They somehow got thrown in the ice cream container with the "spare parts" stuff and were parkerized. They finally got remembered, but I still need a couple parts for the Z bar.
I'm really getting excited and cannot wait to get this thing fired up and rocking. Here are some pictures.
