Well, a little got done today at the Hot Rod Garage. Had to spend some time getting the snap up's installed on the trailer and remounting the emergency brake switch and that limited progress. On a safety related note, while I was drilling a 5/32" hole in the trailer tongue to mount the brake switch the drill bit shattered. I ended up with a cut above my lip from flying metal and MPD got a cut right on his upper lip. If it had hit one of us in the eye it would have been life changing. I have never seen a drill bit shatter like that, but I will wear safety glasses in the future.

On the Gold Car, the exhaust manifolds are now in place. They slid right in and the bolts threaded and tighten up without drama. The tranny got gear lube as well. We couldn't get to the starter because I couldn't find the nylon Z-bar bushing and the ball pivot seal, and it seemed best to get the clutch hooked up first. The original flash chrome valve covers are in place and look good. They got a lot of scrubbing and I also buffed them out. They look almost as good as new. The paint inspection mark is also back on the firewall, and the OK-5 is stamped on the right engine head. All in all, a pretty good day, but the clock is ticking rapidly.

Looks great, thxs for the safety tip reminder and the update.

What is your planned procedure for reinstalling the innner fender liners on the front?

Reason for the Q is last time I worked with them I ended up scratching and cussing...which I'd be concerned messing up your nicely restored engine compartment and suspension components...

Quick question Bob: I noticed you went with the brass prop. valve. Was this just personal preference? I don't believe it was the same in your tear down pics.

Good eye, it was different. This one came with the master and booster and after a half-hearted search for a good original I decided to use it.

Alvin - I think even Dave would be scared of that car. Probably worth more for parts.

On the Gold Car, a few more pieces got bolted on today. It's starting to look like an engine compartment again.

Thanks Alvin, we'll be sure not to forget. Do you have a picture or diagram showing where it is supposed to get connected?

A few more things got done today on the Gold Car. On the topside, the idle stop bracket and solenoid, choke shroud, throttle return springs, and brake booster vacuum line are all installed. On the bottom, the starter is in and wired, and the exhaust is hooked up and ready. It is moving forward step by step.

Looks sweet!! Was a heat shield optional for the starter?. I have owned a couple but didnt notice. Valve covers look very familiar

I don't know if the heat shield was optional or not, but I put one on just in case. The original valve covers really cleaned up well and I am lucky in that regard since they are so hard to find. Now I just need to get the exhaust shroud installed that you hooked me up with.

Solenoid heat shield was standard equipment on ALL 75-79 Pontiac V-8's....(not sure about 301's)

ahem......valve covers requires slight blue overspray on the overhang edge....

Maybe I am thinking of another car or I just can't tell in pics, but wasn't one of the return springs for the throttle yellow and one blue?

You are the second person to suggest this. I am pretty sure that the blue and silver is correct, but I want to get it right so I look forward to other comments. My original springs are pictured below and were blue and silver. Also, I bought a spare correct intake that was fully dressed and included correct manual transmission carb. It also has gray under blue carb return springs. Someone else chime in here. Let's get this right Here is my original set up before the madness started.
