If you look at the "auto polo" pics you have to wonder if the roll bar is there to protect the passengers or the cars. They don't go above the drivers head and really don't do any good anyway without seat belts. They do however seem to reduce damage to the vehicles.

I thought they were grab rails for the polo player, not roll bars?

I dunno- if you look at the guy on the far left of the picture you can see he's holding onto a different bar. Looks to me like there are roll bars behind the seat and around the radiator shell to protect the car (not the driver!) during rollovers. The bar behind the seat looks like it was made to be just tall enough to keep the steering column/wheel from getting messed up.

Yeah, they didn't worry about the nut behind the wheel.

They probably never considered protecting anybody in the car.
As you can see from the photos, if the car rolls, they ain't gonna be in there any more!

I grew up on a farm in N.E Wisconsin. The southern end of the farm was along the Green Bay & Western railroad line right of way. I remember working in the fields and seeing those railroad cars loaded with three levels of Mustangs, sometimes 6 or more rail cars in a row, heading west. There was a car ferry just to the east in Kewaunee where the rail cars were unloaded after making the trip across Lake Michigan from Dearborn. I think they were all bound for upper Midwest states. I remember picking out my favorite on each car. I must have been 15 at the time. Just on the other side of the tracks was our small town Ford dealer, Johnson Ford.
