Default AIR pump

My 1966 Gto is an original AIR car but I'm missing the air pump. I just spotted an ad for a pump from a 66 389 bonneville and now i wonder if this would be the same pump that was used on the GTO? Just thought it would be neat to have on the shelf if I wanted to go all original sometime in the future.

My 67 master parts book says they are the same.

Nice, another AIR setup out there. Mine always make guys scratch their heads a bit. Wrong air cleaner they'll say Here's some shots of mine. If you ever need a plumbing guide, mine's all there and connected, so let me know.

Hmm, never thought of the aircleaner. Mines the thin pancake louvered one. Maybe I should check of he has that of the bonneville to.
Mine is also an a/c car but the plumbing is cut by the fender and the pump is gone so that will be the next thing to look for.

I was lucky that no previous owners changed or removed any of the molded hoses, which are probably unobtainium, connecting the air pump to the valves on both engine brackets, especially the hose from the oil filler cap to the air cleaner base on the drivers side. I have heard this is the same hose used on an SD 455 Trans Am. Here's the original air cleaner and the hose locations.

BB66, nice engine compartment. Mine is the same, except a 67. At the GTO Nats in 2011 in Portland, mine was the only 66 or 67 so equipped. Never seen a '6 in person as such.

Thanks gtobully, it has survived pretty well since finishing in 1994. 66 and 67 are quite different. 67 has a bracket that attaches the valve to the water neck bolt, the 66 valve sorta lays on top of the intake. Gas filter mounts horizontal instead of vertical. Air cleaners are unique too. At first I thought I was missing the bracket but the molded hose and vacuum lines position it exactly where it sits now. You're right, you wont see many. I saw a 67 in Dayton in '13, Yours probably something like this picture. This was an unrestored original 67 GTO. There were so many factory fresh markings, tags, stampings etc. on this it was crazy. Owner said it was used to compile documentation for concourse cars.

I actually saw a 66 with the AIR installation on the American carshow in Södertälje, Sweden, last month. Nice car with turqoise paint, a bit darker than my reef turqoise, and parchment interior. For some reason I did not take any photos of it.....

Yes the louvered, pancake style is the 49 state air cleaner. For CA it would have had to be a totally closed system with a connection from the air pump to it as well as a connection from the valve cover.
