Default Floor Pan Hole Oval Plates

Just wanted to double check before I re-install the floor pan hole oval shaped metal plates. Does the raised center section point up or down to the ground. Thanks

Most of the ones I've seen are downwards but plenty of both ways on original cars

Hard to tell in this pic but it was actually up. Plugs are galvanized & not painted.

Caulking was white originally as well, yellowed over time.

I've always seen them facing upwards.

72 GTO original floor. We can see the white caulking.
