Adjusting Headlights on a 66 GTO??
This probably has been discussed, But I can't find it. Anybody lay out the steps in adjusting the high and low beams for a 66 GTO??

This info, found in the service manual but here is a basic outline that works very well.
Park the vehicle on level ground facing a wall, vehicle 25 feet from the wall, and it has to be dead square facing the wall. Measure the distance from the center of your headlamps to the ground. Take that measurement, and put a line of tape the width of the car at the same height on the wall. Make two vertical tape stripes from the horizontal stripe going down to the ground that are spaced the same width as your vehicle. Adjust the hi beams so the center of the beam straddled the horizontal line where it intersects with the vertical line. Adjust the low beams 4" below the horizontal line. This is not a 100% but very close.

Adjusting Headlights on a 66 GTO??
Just went thru this on my now completed 66 gto, I tried the tape on the garage door covering up the low beams to do the hi beams just couldn't get them right, you know out of adjusted lights will get you pulled over by the man, well went to a local body shop and my friend Jerry in about 5 minutes had them perfect, most shops have the machine to do this. just my opinion. jd grim 66 gto

Years ago I bought on ebay the same adjusting tools needed as used in a garage in the 1970's, had the set up with the mirrors, works great on my 69 GTO.

I have always used the good old fashion way. You go out to a flat road out in the country somewhere there is very little traffic at night , this should be a dark night . Adjust them one at a time while you are looking out over the steering wheel. Go out adjust them higher or lower for how you like them. Just start with the low beams one at a time, when each one is done where you like them go on to the next one. After you have them where you can see best your done. There are plenty of dark roads around & even if someone comes down the road your on all you have to do is move & go back to where you were & finish.

I get them as close as I can, then take a night drive where I can pass quite a few on-coming cars. If no one flashes me, I go back and adjust them up a little. I keep this up until at least two cars get upset with me, and then go back and drop them a little.
Sort of like red lighting at the drags - gotta push the limit for the best results.
