I have a Bosch 4000 table saw I have had for about 12 years. I have done 3 jobs with it where it saw considerable use for 3-12 month stretches. I got it out of storage at one point, and the motor would not turn. I worked with it and got it going. Have used it regularly for about the last 4 months, knowing by the sound of it that some bearing would let go somewhere, but there is no way to lubricate anything. Died in the middle of work a couple of days ago. After some digging I found the rear plastic bearing area looked like this. Not sure it is repairable since the plastic has totally burned up. Not really happy with the longevity of the tool given the use of it, but I do things with it I am sure are beyond its designed capacity, so can't complain that much I guess.

I am buying a reconditioned 4100 so I can use my stand, extension etc. etc. b/c the price on all this stuff has gone way up. Plus, I hate the amount of space the new model's rolling stand takes up in storage. My question is… should I drill a hole in the rear of the motor where this charred area is so I can lube the bearing in there? I have a friend who does commercial refrigeration, and he dos this all the time on new equipment. Thought it might be a good solution since I suspect 4100 is basically the same tool. What say ye?

That looks nasty! Looks like they sell motor parts for the Bosch 4000 table saw, so you should be able to rebuild it.

I had to replace the front motor bearing in my Rigid table saw after a bind/kickback overstressed the motor. It was easy to fix.

That is awesome. Thanks! I did not find the same. Will order about $20 worth of parts. The case and rubber sleeve are gone for sure from the smell of the smoke cloud. Rear bearing made noise forever. I bought another to keep me going, but would like to repair that one. Having a helluva time getting the last screw that I think is holding the motor to the base out. Unable to pull armature off. I think the drive gear is holding it on, but no way to see up in there to tell. Exploded diagram does not show the 2 screws either.
