J-23028 Spring Compressor
Hello!
Does anybody have a Kent Moore J-23028 spring compressor they'd be willing to sell or lend me? I need it for about 2-3 weeks. I'll gladly pay shipping. Thanks! George |

George can you post a picture of what you need? When I google it a bunch of different things show up. Where do you live and what are you doing? Local parts houses rent out tools.

That's it! Do you have one? I tried Auto Zone, but they don't have that flavor of it.

How does that tool work? I assume it is for the safe removal of the spring and not for the compression and install? I'm staring at it and can't seem to understand how it would compress the spring and not be in the way on the install.

It goes under the lower control arm bushings. You need to attach it to a transmission jack or an attachment which works with your floor jack.

You can change springs without removing the ball joints from the spindle. You remove the shocks and the lower A frame pivot bolts to get the spring out. We used this tool quite frequently when I worked in a Buick dealership in the mid 80s. You can change out both springs in under an hour on a lift using this tool attached to a transmission jack. Once you have used this method the spindle ball joint method is really slow comparatively.
IMO it's also safer to remove springs using this method. Just a FYI, I believe the correct part number is; Kent Moore J-23028-7 Base

I agree with the safety angle -- that's why I'm looking for one that won't break the bank.
