Default Adjusting shifter cable

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could assist me in adjusting the shifter cable. When I installed it, i had issues, but I thought they had been solved, but I was wrong. When the car is on an incline when the shifter is in P, it will roll back as though it is in neutral until I turn the column collar.

I was told my a local Pontiac owner to go underneath and loosen the bolt in the picture and push it up as high as it can go, then tighten the bolt again (Also found these instructions numerous times with the Google-box). This made the situation much worse by pushing the rod up, making it hard to go into any of the gears. I then lowered the rod back down to close to where it was, and it made it at least back to the way it was when I first described it.

I know I don't have to show you guys what I am talking about, but I took a picture anyway. And I was wondering if the bolt is suppose to be snug against the piece of metal, or is there suppose to be a bit of wiggle room as seen in the picture?

Curious that nothing seemed to solve my issue, I took the shifter console off to look if anything looked out of the oridinary, but I didn't see anything personally. I uploaded a video to show you the difference of when it is properly in P and not quite in park. I don't know if it is a large difference or not, but can anyone see if something should be adjusted up near the shifter?

you are missing a WAV or WAVY looking washer that would be on the side of the bolt head and bracket.
On my 69 GTO, I would loosen the rod bolt, shift the trans to park, push that long rod up all the way, then tighten the rod bolt, and that was all I needed.
One thing too is that the proper shifter cable? and not the cheepo $35.00 one?
I tried the cheep cable and it never worked right till I paid the price for the $ 100.00 cable. One more thing is that not having the shifter mounted to the center console might also be giving you trouble with the shifter moving.

Yeah, I wondered if that was suppose to have that movement or not. So without that I might be SOL?

Also, you mentioned about loosening the bolt rod then shifting it into park. I did all the steps I previously mentioned with it already in park. What gear should it have been in?

Park.
I loosen the bolt to the rod, shift the trans manually into park by hand or a wrench, then moved the rod up as fa as it will go, the tigten up the bolt, that should be it.

Maybe that's where I went wrong. I put it in park by the column collar, loosened the bolt and pushed the rod all the way up. I have no idea about putting it into park by a wrench.

shift to park from the shifter, notice the direction of travel, loosen rod bolt, continue the shift by hand or wrench under the car, push rod up as far as it will go, tighten rod bolt, should be good to go.

hmmm, I must be doing something wrong. I am getting a fellow Pontiac enthusiast to come over on Thursday to help. Giving him an old intake in trade so it is win win. This is the last thing before I feel confident for the out of province inspection. I find when it is in Park and I push the rod all the way up, it makes it that it is still able to be pushed like it is in neutral and I cant even get it to go to Park with the collar. When I bring the rod down further, that is when it is at it's "best" where it won't go into park by the shifter but I can at least put it into park via the column collar.
