Hi Everyone,

It's been years since I've been on here. I haven't done anything to my car since my last post, other than simply enjoy it.

I have a 1968 Firebird convertible: Black on black on black. I've had the car for 37 years.

I live in Virginia and I never put the top up. "If it's not nice enough to go out with the top down. . . it's not nice enough to take it out." And with the vinyl seats, in the heat and the sun, that means a sweating back - always.

It's past time for me to recover my seats; but, I keep pushing it off because I really don't want to put more vinyl back on them. I keep hoping someone will make covers that look a lot like the Deluxe seat covers, but be made out of a material that breathes. Or, maybe even also has ventilation fans in them.

Does anyone know of anyone, anywhere, that can make seat covers that look like the Deluxe interior covers, but are made of a material that breathes? And, in a perfect world, can do them in a ventilated seat.

On the dlx. seats you can use a vented material your seat guy will know what it is, but you can have him install it in every other rib & it will do what you want it to do & look good to. It has little holes in it so the seat can breath & you won't sweat as much. But I lived in Norfolk VA. for 3 years & no amount of seat material will keep you from sweating in your summer sun.

Long time ago I has one of those removable seat things. I was made of fishing line and wooden balls which the fishing line passed thru. Best ventilator I ever had and was removable.
Didn't take long before it started coming apart.
Worked great. Didn't last very long.
Maybe they've improved them by now ?

Change your seats over to the deluxe style "comfort weave" covers.
This was something that pontiac offered for several years (including 68).
They have a vinyl weaved "cloth" center panels, and regular vinyl outter edges.

Legendary and Classic Industries both make & sell them.
A little more $$ than standard covers (and you have to run the matched buns, as the listing tucks are positioned differently than standard).. but real nice option.

My 68 vert bird had those seats because it had the delux. interior. The seat felt great even in very hot sun. It still did burn you a little bit when you sat down after being in the sun but not as bad as the all vinyle seats

Wow! I didn't know that. You learn something new everyday.

I knew about the Comfort Weave in the Deluxe seats, but I thought it was simply a fancier looking design than the standard vinyl seat. I thought the center section was still solid vinyl. I never knew it was breathable.

Is it not vinyl? Does it have holes that air can pass through? Or do the small "bumps" simply make tiny pockets of air that keep your clothes (me) from being sealed to the seat?

The center sections are an actual woven material, so they breath like a cloth would.

They are not a pebbled or imprinted vinyl like early mustang seats.
