Default Any wiring wizards here? I have a handful of wires with no "home"

These wires are driving me bananas. I just received a wiring diagram from NPD today, and was sorely disappointed, it was unreadable.

I have googled and found better diagrams, but I'm still lost- for example, I cant find anything that yellow with a black tracer and I'm not sure if what they call "tan" looks very orange after all this time.

I took some pics and if anyone can guide me, it would be much appreciated. Its a 69 convertible with power windows and top and A/C, formerly console shifted automatic and everything under there was a mess.

These heavy purple wires were connected to an alarm system One originates in the block on top of the column. the other comes out of the main harness. Instinct says they should be joined.

A/C or heater control pigtail?

Yellow with a black tracer. I can't find it on my diagram. comes out of the harness behind the cluster

These guys were wrapped together. Obviously one is a light, but I can't locate orange with a black tracer on the diagram

This one is near the E brake assy

And so is this one. The other wires are the courtesy light wires:

This comes out the top of the harness behind the cluster

Another mystery pigtail towards the center of the dash

These are wrapped together toward the center. One has what appears to be a ballast attached to it.

And not sure what this is for. Glove box lamp?

Thank you guys. I will continue to toil over the diagrams

Don't know if I can help you I have a 68 gto I can look where they go and post a pic, something I'm in need of is a pic of the wires going into the dimmer switch , I have somewhat of a mess going on too.

Will look under my dash tomorrow to see if I can help, do you have any idea where the wires in question go ?

Gregg

No problem, that's one of the few things the previous owner didn't mess with or take apart. I'll get it to you when I get to work in the morning.

I would normally say the purple wire is the neutral safety switch.
But looks like it could be for the power top.

Here are a couple pics:

Some I couldn't tell what they were.

those are hugely helpful.

The power top wires are grey and purple. I have those thankfully. I am looking for the power source for the switch still

Taking over a project car someone else has given up on sucks sometimes.

The third schematic John posted is the one with the most information on it and the one I'd start with. You can up size it by clicking on it twice and it goes 2 sizes larger. I would turn it 90 degrees and print it on a color printer and work off of that.

Wiring is never much fun, but many people make it a mountain in their mind. Chip away at the mountain a little at a time and you'll have it manageable and working soon enough.

I'm presently repairing a damaged 4L80E transmission wiring harness under my K3500 that got tangled in the front driveshaft and ripped all the plugs off of the transmission and tore the wiring out of the harness that comes out of the transmission control module under the truck. Soldering and heat shrinking all those wires and having to extend some of the wires that are now too short working under the truck is a real pain.

I also now am using a later model harness to repair it and the color coding is different from the original. Have to trace wires and figure out where they come from rather than what color they are.

I feel your pain, been there done it before.

Well, I'm sure you've probably answered all your questions with the diagrams but here's a run down for you anyways
pic1: 2 purple wires are for the neutral safety switch (ends are cut obviously so you'd have to put .250 female fast ons to reconnect to the column switch (auto) or the NS clutch switch if it's a stick.
pic2: yes
pic3: if you look closer I think you'll see it's faded orange, not yellow, and that's the connector for clock accessory power (needs a .250 female connector)
All of the orange/black wires are 12v accessory feeds for various options like clock, power trunk release, courtesy lights, etc. that recieve 12v with the key off.
pic4: light plugs into the heater control head, orange is the accessory feed for the power trunk
pic5: Pretty sure it's the feed wire to your power top switch if you follow the wiring back. Since you have multiple power options, it would have plugged into a jumper wire that had thee inputs on one side and one on the other that goes into a BAT feed on the fuseblock.
pic6: brown wire - ignition accessory feed,(like for a rear defogger option, something that only gets power with key on)
pic7: Grey wire - it's the light feed for the jumper harness for a clock or dash tach
pic8: memory's slipping here but I believe that's the blower resistor connector for your fan.
pic9: grey wire is the light feed for the radio, yellow wire is the power feed for the radio (these would have went to a single connector that plugged into the front speaker connector before going into the back of a radio). orange and black wire would have had a bullet connector on it and was the feed wire for the cigarette lighter (that light in the bullet shape snaps onto the side of the cigarette lighter assembly)
last pic: that's the courtesy light for the glove box. The front of it's broken off and the light/switch assembly needs to be replaced. The wire comes out of the plastic housing by bending the tab of the "U" in from the back to release it from the housing.

I don't agree with Sirro, I LOVE wiring a hell of alot more than I do bodywork!

Later,
Dennis

You guys have been a tremendous help! I was able to sit in the car yesterday and sort everything out and get all my wires routed, wrapped, the dashboard installed and it cranks(I think it's out of gas, definitely getting spark)!

The heavy purple wires are definitely the neutral safety switch wires. The orange wire near the Ebrake is the Tach wire. In-Line Tube has a write up about it and I traced it to my FB to be the same wire.
