I am finding these original clips really hard to remove. They hold the chrome trim in place. I think if I get them out they will be ruined. Are they available aftermarket, or should I leave them in place & paint over them? Going to be stripping the panel soon as my 68 project is getting closer to paint.

The valances I've had originally had 3/8" speed nuts on them for the trim. Those look like barrel nuts. Not sure if the fastener varied by factory. You should be able to pick up replacements at an auto body supply store.

Ditto on them not being factory, just body shop barrel nuts to save time during reassembly of trim. Twist them out with needle nose and install the moulding a with the right speed nuts.

Thanks guys. I tried to remove the first one & had to destroy it, so at that point I just crushed them all & got them out. No way those were coming out intact.

They are worth a few pennies each at an autobody paint supply shop

I was more concerned about needing them & maybe they were no longer available. Seems like the older I get, the more research I do before making a decision. While it helps prevent making mistakes, it sure slows me down sometimes. Interestingly there were no marks on the backside of the valance from speed nuts & the backside still had original paint. Front side had original paint with one recoat This wasn't original to my car, I bought it out of Texas, or Arizona many years ago. very clean dent free part with just light surface rust in a couple spots. was very happy to find it at the time.
