Default Anyone like to play in the sand?

I went to Glamis this last weekend. It was my first time out there.

Wow. The scale of that place is incredible. I grew up playing at the dunes in Silver Lake, MI, so the size comparison is off the charts.

I met my little brother out there. He was out there with a crew of friends from Michigan.

If you like awesome HP/weight ratios, try a blown LS motor in a long travel sand rail. It is a truly wicked ride.

He also brought his sand truck. It's also a tube chassis long travel vehicle, but is only a truck in the loosest sense of the word. It was purpose built from scratch to be what it is now. Big inch LSx, manual valvebody TH400, Ford 9". THAT was my favorite.
You can see it jumping at 2:45 in the vid link from a while back:

Sand car: at 00:45 and 1:55

My brother drove his sand car, and I drove the truck. We opened them up over 100 mph on 20+ miles south to the Mexican border. That was awesome!

It made me start looking for some kind of long travel 2wd pre-runner type truck!

I think the next James Bond movie should have the opening chase done with vehicles like that.

Don't have any sand to play in over here, but a lot of the guys on the mini buggy forums i'm on are out that way and their rigs are built for it. For me it's rocky woods running with a slightly different suspension and weight approach. 16" travel front and rear, about 14 underneath, based on a go-kart floorpan, 434cc LTZ quadsport engine, race the SxS class.finished 7th out on 21 this past season--only homebuilt.

Ok, those single seat buggies are cool! My son an I had started building a kart last year, and I wondered what a kart would be like with the suspension - shrunk down long travel sand car! I like!

Talking sand dunes

wow big place, but way out on the west coast, if anyone is looking for a more central located area, we have little sahara in nw OK, has a town nearby ,you can drive to and from town (motel)in your atv to the dunes.Only bad weather shuts it down, open year round.its a state park and they a have a sand buggy you can rent a passenger seat on for dune ride too .buy one for grandma ,sit behind her and off to the side, film her screming and yelling, show her whats she's missing !!!!!!!!
