I am running the open scoops that I have been running for quite some time. I have a closed set that came on the car and an open set I bought cheap at a swap meet years ago. I had both painted when I had the car sprayed. The closed ones are hanging on my garage wall.
Actually, in the back of my mind, since the stock breather was long gone, I always planned to eventually run the HO/RA setup.

The tube is the same as the non RA in 68. A number of vendors have started selling a 68 RA tube, but have no idea what they are selling. All factory literature states the same number for the 68 tube and have had or have multiple 68 RA cars, all with the same non RA tube.

Only seen them grey phosphate in 1968 and the only way I have ever finished one, but at some point they must have been painted black. That tube was used for years and seen too many black ones. Even have a couple NOS ones and they are black

I thought the tube was white cadmium plated? but I have been wrong before.

Ok, I'll have to research some photos to see what they look like. I really don't want to do black so I'll try to simulate the grey phosphate or white cadmium. I may just satin clearcoat the bare metal...although it looks mighty pretty the way it's shining right now, I know it won't last.

Found this one on the Mecum site. Shows the tube black. I'm sure with very little effort, I can find pics that show grey phosphate and white cadmium also..

Awesome pic Boss. I was actually surprised that it was harder than I thought to come up with pics of anything other than black or polished natural metal. Mostly black. Some eliminated the tube altogether.
I think I can simulate the phosphate coating on the above pic and I like the look better than black. I'm still kinda digging the polished natural also but I really don't think that thing is supposed to stand out.
By the way, how about a full pic of that car? '68 RAIIs (Goats and 'Birds) are my holy grail...and that looks like an extremely nice one.

Thats a 68 GTO I think that BOSS has a pic of. I see that its black. Hmmmm, I might need to do mine different.

This one looks like it was Silver (white) cadmium? Looks like it has both heater hose retainers?

Tube is probably the same though, FB or GTO. The only thing I'd think is different is the hood pan.

Wow..fantastic car. I've never seen it before. It appears to be a special order color- Winward Blue?
I see the tube as Grey also. In fact, I see the Firebird tube in the link as Grey. The tube on the Red GTO in the link I posted is black.

I was confused. Boss' pic looks gray. The Red car is black, but I think somebody with a spray can got hold of it. So its a choice of White Cad or Gray phosphate. Plus there may be a difference in a OEM tube and a NOS tube. I find that "dull aluminum" spray paint is a good match for white cad plating.

Boss, the metallic doesn't show in the photo so I thought it was that special code blue. Fantastic car. Thanks for posting as I'd never seen that one.
Decisions, decisions Ted. I'll play with it tomorrow and post a pic of what I come up with as far as simulating one of the finishes. I'm still kind of playing with just clearcoating it too...The junkyard tube polished up so well that it looks almost chromed.
