were those part of the "1-LE Police Package"? I know they had an aluminum drive shaft and some other trick parts but never knew about the hood. Good luck!

No, not part of the 1LE package.
Some random info.
Optional on the 82 T/A. RPO T45
(some cars also have a aluminum front bumper support)
The aluminum hoods all have a 82 date stamp on them. Some have a large "A" on the bottom by the hood spring and a few don't.
The aluminum hood used different hood shocks and a different popup spring.
Also, they are stamped with the steel hood part number but the box they came in has the correct aluminum hood part number.
Was also optional on the 92 Firehawk and I think 11 cars got those.
I currently have 1 (had 3) and have seen 15 or so in person.
I was told by Jim Mattison that less than 100 were made..
