Rebuild.
Well I took my 455 which was smoking so bad I couldn't see the garage in & it looks like there was some grit of some type in it. The machinist said it looks like someone put something in it. Last summer my car did a lot of sitting at our shows with the hood up & I don't think anyone would have put something in it but you never know. Any way I will have to go 40 over now but it will clean up very nicely & I'll have it back. I put my extra short block together with the parts from the 455/462 in & on it so I could be able to drive it. But because of some good trading I'll be able to get some new pistons & the other parts are minor for the rebuild but I'll have it back. The 400 is OK but the TQ & power & HP of that 462 is so much better. The car a year ago went 11:72 @ 116 with street tires & full exhaust,, well to the axle that is. But the 400 which is a 60 over 400 is OK but you can really feel the difference in the way the car performers with the 400 VS the 462. But the new year is going to be good to me ,,,, for a change & with luck I'll have it back together & in the car before the end of the year. I'll drive the car with the 400 until I get the 455 rebuilt & then once I have it done I'll install it over a weekend. Thats whats great about our cars, all the extra room we have in them to be able to work on them with out cutting your hands up from all the junk in the way. I can install the engine in the car & pull the old one out if I bust my butt to do it in about 6 hours. But I'll take the entire weekend so I won't be so tried after that I won't be able to go out & drive it. My 73 GTO has no A/C & is a 4 speed so theres not much in the way. If I can get some help maybe we can get it out & in in the day. But ?? Also Happy New Year to all !!!!!
