Default LED dash light installed

Finally got the LED lights installed on the 69 Firebird dash. Absolutely worth the headache to remove the dash and cluster. The pics look dark at the bottom but they are the same brightness all the way around. I tried red led first but they were not that bright. Looked good but could not see the gas gauge needle or speeedo needle that well. Left the p-nut bulbs in the turn signal so i did not have to worry about the flasher. Pics are with the cellphone camera. Only parking lights and dark garage.

I'm interested in this too. Were they off the shelf 194 LED replacements?

Also can you give us an estimate of how much brighter it is with the LED's?

These were ebay specials. standard 194 plug white leds. as for brightness... It is night and day difference. The pics do not do any justice.

This is what I ordered. Exact seller and part number...

How white is the light?

I tried fitting a Sylvania led that I had in my gauges and it was too blue and way too bright for my liking.

Can you still dim the dash lights down like you can with the regular bulbs?

It dims just a tad then goes out completely. From my readings, LEDS are either on or off. No in between. as for whiteness of the light, yes, pretty white...

Just an update; I ended up using Philips Blue Vision bulbs and was happy with the results. They produce a nice bright clean white light and are not too bright unlike some of the LED's I tried.

Default Tech update

Incandescent brightness varies according to voltage because they look like a resistor to the voltage source. More voltage pushes more current into the filament. LEDs are semiconductors and their brightness is a function of current, but because they are diodes they do not have a linear response like a resistor does to voltage. That is why they are "all or nothing" with the old dimmer controls. To properly dim LEDs you need a variable current source. Basically a two transistor circuit.

1978 T/A,

What's the P/N on those Philips bulbs? What is the color temperature? Did you find them on eBay?

Thanks!

Philips Blue Vision is the series line, and I believe they are rated at 4000K. The bulb numbers were W5W for the 194 bulbs and T4W for the 1893's.

I purchased all the bulbs from Ebay. All the bulbs together cost me around $30.
