John, just to add a note to this topic, the Tri-power linkage is backward in these advertising pictures and a owner could have a bad accident if the rod comes out of the tube on the 1964 and earlier style linkage. The 64 Linkage does not belong on a 65 Tri-Power engine.
So the picture has bad info on two different parts. Why post bad info that will screw up a 65 Tri-Power Owner? Tom V.

Specifically what is wrong? What is the 'tube' you speak of? Show a correct linkage and position of said 'backwards' linkage? All of us neophyte tripower people would appreciate all the correct information about them and not just some ridicule and derisive smart aleck remark.

Here's how the '64 factory over-the-counter linkage looked. This one is installed correctly.
Note the center lever extension, which was also used on big Pontiacs, but didn't have provision for the return spring. The drawing attached is for the big car version, identical to the GTO except for the spring hook referred to above.

Thanks, Dick.
My pics are from the 1965 Model brochure. So this pic of a 65 tripower from a tripower rebuilder is wrong too?

Here is a link on the 1965 linkage:
65 Linkage Appears there needs to be some consensus on linkages?

John, I will TRY to explain to you what is wrong with the advertising pictures you posted in Post #1 vs the actual 65 linkage that was released on GTOs and Big Cars.
The advertisement 65 GTO has a "Tube and Plunger" linkage on it. The tube and plunger are installed backward from what is the correct positions on a 64 GTO. The 65 GTO was built with the "J-bar" and Slotted rod linkage. Same deal for the 65 Big car advertisement picture. It too is wrong. The 65 Big Cars got the same linkage as the 65 GTOs. So that is my point. Why post up incorrect info where someone will say I saw the 64 Linkage on a 65 Vehicle picture and it was installed this way. WRONG AND DANGEROUS. Try to examine the pictures a bit closer this time. In this topic Post #4 Dick B shows the 64 Tube and Plunger linkage with the Tube installed correctly on the rear carb and the Plunger installed correctly on the center carb. The Tube and Plunger parts were not correct on a 1965 vehicle. So the AD pics are wrong. Tom V. Does everyone else understand this post now? You will have to look at the linked pics as the files are too big to add to my post.

Well, I can't change the thousands of factory photos out there, but I have added a disclaimer to mine.
The pics in the links in my 1st post will show the disclaimer now.

The picture in post 5 has an automatic transmission idle vent valve on the center carb while the progressive linkage was used on the manual transmission. The linkage on the rear carb is a later 65 build. Early 65s had a slightly different linkage. The front carb is missing what I call the J tube with its cover on the air horn. The spring return bracket with the 3 holes should be engine blue.

In the second photo the gas inlet line is wrong. Its for a 66. I just finished restoring a 65 and I believe I have it setup correctly.

In the GTO the biggest limiter was the little under-200 cfm A93C air cleaners. Also up through 65 has the smaller center carb. All three were large flange for 66 and a single big air cleaner could flow over 1,000 cfm which pretty much maxed the 66 GTO tripower high rise (B-bodies used a low-rise manifold).
Milt had fun trying to make the 67 QJ faster than a 66 tripower but that was the decree from above. |

The Tri-Power intakes for 1964 through the last 1966 ones were all a high-rise design, the previous years were all were low-rise.
