63 Tempestorque tranny repair
It's a long shot but here it comes.
1. Does anyone know if there is a transmission shop that can rebuild a tempestorque tranny in the Central California Valley?(Visalia, Fresno, Madera, Merced, Modesto,Turlock) I get some weird looks when I mention it. My 63 LeMans conv. is in dire need of a rebuild. 2. Can anyone provide me with 2 of the torque shaft bearings? Cost? Any help would be appreciated. |

"CHIEFKEY" on this forum sells (sold?) the bearings after he had a limited order reproduced about a year ago. He put a lot of work on getting them reproduced so at whatever price, I know he isn't going to come out making a lot of money off his efforts.

63 Tempestorque tranny repair
Augie;
As for the torque tube insulators/bearings, I have a few sets left. They are $ 140.00 a pair including shipping. If you're interested you can email me at Chiefkey@ comcast.net. JK |

Jacks Transmission in Manteca ( just north of Modesto) has worked on them before (209) 823-7995. I have taken mine there for advice when I rebuilt mine, and he has worked on another 62 in town. He is very honest, knowledgeable and knows where to get the parts. He has mentioned he worked on plenty in the earlier years.

They are very much a powerglide when you get inside them the guy who did mine had no problem.If you have a four cly trans get them to machine the drum and add two plates.The band is a special piece and it may be hard to get if so PM me and I have a rebuilt one you can have.It came in the kit but as my 63 had only 38000 miles the band was like brand new.Get them to raise the line pressure for a firmer shift as the rope shaft takes the shock of the shift you wont notice it but the clutchs will wear slower.

True, it is very similar to powerglide. I rebuilt my own after the local AAMCO gave me the run around and before I knew of Jacks. The coupling bushing were bad on mine and AAMCO swore they could take care of it. I was at least smart and told them, you can find replacements, I'll let you rebuild my tranny. Of course, three months later, they couldn't get them nor the valve body gasket.

My friend Charlie Smith in Philo Illinois rebuilds these better than Factory. He has a original rear end in his automatic 63 LeMans with a 400 tripower on the front he says he will never tear it up. Here's his number
