But, for the engine guy, who is responsible for making it all happen .... you think he can charge 10k labor? Rarely......... if ever.
It's so bazaar to me that people don't value your time, expertise, experience, and ability to make it all function properly, but will go out and spend $3500.00 on a carburetor or $10,000 for a bare set of heads in hopes of picking up a half a tenth.. It's been a mystery to me since I started back in 1979. I would say the only people that know how much time it takes to design, make fit together, clean, assemble and figure out why something didn't work the way that you thought are less than 1%.

Depends on the clients, us poor Pontiac folks can't pay what you guys are worth. I can not afford a build like this, but the knowledge I keep getting is good for when I hit lotto. I cheaped out and added a turbo which has it's issues too.
Good luck Mike, Marcella posted a nice number he thinks it will hit.

Mike, This is why I like you. Your never say die attitude is inspiring and motivating. All the turmoil these kinds of engines create and always surprise us with will devastate most people. You shrug it off like it's no big deal and it is a BIG deal. I know it doesn't make it any better, but Thank You for showing us how it's done. The good and the bad !!!!!

Mike, I can't see for sure what you have for retainers, keepers, lash caps and so forth. But if you had a failure in that area, we have had great luck with the Manley lash locks. They are a 3 piece assembly and the keepers fully surround a special lash cap. The lash cap has a hard ground surface with a large surface area for the T&D roller. We run 450 lbs. on the seat and around 1100 open. We were using Manton lash locks which are like a jigsaw puzzle piece, but I like these better. Glad you didn't have any big damage.

... Bryant is the best for sure IMO, we've had serious breakage due to engines free-wheeling past the limiter after a snapped input shaft, and it hit 10,000rpm, the crankshaft was fine ...

Thanks for giving us a peek into what it takes to make this type of power. This is exactly the type of post that will put more Pontiacs in the winner circle.

Weight breaks for being subpar are what will put Pontiacs in the Winner's Circle. Just saying. Lol.

Hmm... those outer springs resemble the front suspension coils on my daily driver; I'd expect breakage if I used them as valve springs...

Seriously- are the retainers a good (snug) fit in the springs?

I keep repeating to myself....

It's great when it's good, so you have to enjoy the moments because it's not always good!! And when it's not great, it's really bad. Engines are an all or nothing proposition in this sport. Love hate relationship.
