Default need new books to read

read all Lee Child's Jack Reacher books, and John Sandford's Lucas Davenport/Virgil Flowers/and a couple Kidd books. Now I need suggestions on a new series to start on.

I like James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels myself, you might give them a try.

What do you like? I mostly read sci if and history. Along the lines of the Reacher books you could read all of Clive Cusslers books if you like adventure/mystery. There's like 30 in the dirk Pitt series at this point.

I like books, I read a lot. Could for real probably give 50-60 recommendations.

Sanford just came out with a new Davenport novel a few months ago, if you haven't seen it yet.

Another Minnesota author you may like is Vince Flynn, he wrote a series of books about a CIA agent named Mitch Rapp.

thanks guys! i read the new Davenport shortly after it came out. Cussler's novels are ok but not really my style, i've read a few of them. i'm not into science fiction or fantasy world. i like stuff that can make you believe it's an actual story. american history is good also. "The heart of everything that is: the untold story of Red Cloud" turned out to be a book i had a hard time putting down.

It is science fiction, but The Martian is a really good book - mainly because it's science based and not pure fantasy.

That was the best book I've read in the last few years. Movie was good but didn't do it justice.

Go Like Hell is a nonfiction book about Fords chase to beat Ferarri with the GT40 in the 60s. Really good read. They give a pretty good accounting of endurance racing in the early days. The death tolls were shocking to me.

Manhunt is also a good American history book. About the chase for Booth offer he assassinated Lincoln. Read like a suspense novel. Quite a few people got burned in that deal that probably didn't deserve it.

I started The Expanse - Leviathan Wakes (Sci-Fi).

Probably about 90% done. Kinda slowed up. Not 100% sure if I got too busy or if it's not that gripping. So far it's not a bad book - mostly busy I think.

Also a very good series. My biggest problem was I read them as they came out. A year or more apart. So by the time book two comes out I had forgotten much of the first and so on.

I recently read "The Joy of Not Working" and "How to Retire Happy, Wild and Free" by Ernie Zelinski.

Both were very good reads and had lots of good info. Of course, I'm 62 and looking at retirement in the near future.

Try Dan Brown's books. They are fiction, but loaded with lots of real world info.

I'm just the opposite. When I began reading "Leviathan Wakes" I wasn't impressed until I got about halfway through but by the time I finished I was hooked. I've read the whole series so far.

If you like science fiction I highly recommend Neal Stephenson. Try "Cryptonomicon" for starters, "Reamde" is also very good as is his "Baroque Cycle" trilogy though it's almost 3,000 pages so it requires a little commitment.

A few recommendations:

1) Harlen Coben - Myron Bolitar series
2) Vince Flynn - Mitch Rapp series
3) David Baldacci - John Puller series
4) Jim Butcher - Dresden files

Nelson DeMille's early stuff was pretty good, and I highly recommend John Steinbeck. Tortilla Flats, Travels With Charley and Winter Of My Discontent were killer.

Lastly, my favorite book of all time was Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged.

A while back my brother loaned me a bunch of the old Mickey Spillane / Mike Hammer detective novels from the 1950s. They're pretty formulaic (Mike Hammer drinks like a fish, smokes another cigarette on every page of the book, gets in a fight every other page, and gets the dame in the end ) but they're still fun reading.

I've been going through all the Elmore Leonard books I can get my hands on. Many of them use the same characters. He's the novelist the "Justified" tv series was based on.

Yeah, it's hard to go wrong with the classics of detective fiction. Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Ross Macdonald and the like are all great.

Read the Hollander Interchange, volumes I through IV. You will really enjoy it and become the envy of all your car buddies.

I enjoyed the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly, detective series. Follows him through about twenty years. Amazon adapted a series called Bosch.
