Common issues?
Gents,
I'm considering buying a used but very well maintained '05 6 spd with 53k on it.
What are the common maintenance issues with these cars? I'm sure the '04s had problems, but what about the '05s?

All the rubber on the car....
But seriously. A lot of the suspension and rubber always goes bad. Strut mounts, tie rods, stab. links, LCAs.
Nothing drastically different in maintenance between 04 and 05s. What's the price your looking at?

It's at $9800. But was a theft recovery and so has a salvage title. Also, mileage is 66k. I test drove it, Drives well, has a few small spots of surface rust. Front fascia has been replaced at some point. He had it dyno tuned locally and has a sheet for 365HP at the wheels.
Steering wheel controls are broken, I see they're about $125. Side bolster on the drivers seat shows wear.
Biggest thing though is a vibration/humming from the rear at slow speeds during turns. Not sure if the rearend is on the way out or if it just doesn't have the right friction modifier in it.
New tires are on the car, water pump was replaced.

My good friend has an 05 or 06 cant recall right now, garage kept, all paper work, 18000 miles, never hit, really mint car. He is asking $20000.00
A salvage title car is worth .60 cents on the dollar. Sounds high to me for a salvage high mile car. just my .02

I should clarify, I'm interested in buying it basically as a commuter. While the salvage title doesn't bother me, the price seems high. I'd think with all things considered it should be down in the $7-8k range.

I'd go down to about 5.5K to 6K if it has a noise in the rear end. Those will get expensive.

I ended up finding a 13,000 mile 2005 CTS-V with a Magnuson on it for 18K. They have their own set of issues...but wow...it's got an 8 lb pulley on it and it's a rocket ship!!
