I'm not looking to buy, but I've got a question. They appear to be the geared type, as opposed to the traditional differing-size-sprocket type, which is all that I've used. Do you prefer the geared type?

I don't believe that the differential type is still being manufactured. The Gear type is more efficient requiring less effort to lift a load (This is not really much of an issue for smaller loads). With the Gear type you can replace only the load bearing chain if it becomes worn or damaged. Dave
