wood wheel manufacturers
can anyone tell me if there is more than one company making reproduction wood wheels, have one now that has cracked already. only three years old.

well after several e-mails to the parts place they said wheel is only warrantied for one year. shame on me for expecting more than three years from a repop.

A friend of mine redoes the stock steering wheels. He did one for my 65 GTO, and it is very nice. He said the aftermarket ones are junk!

thanks for the info. can"t see spending any time or money repairing what I consider an inferior product. I think my time and money will be better spent on an original wheel, not this piece of sh**t.

12 years going on 13 with my PY recast wheel. It looks as good as it did on day 1.

PY/Ames has had my 67 wheel for over a year now with no firm return date. They did tell me that I could get my wheel back with a refund if I wanted it or I could wait until it might get finished.
It has already been redone twice and both times the finish became tacky when the wheel got warm. I understand that PY/Ames is not going to take anymore wheel restorations.

Was familiar with the teardown process, the spike restoration, and the method to get quality "woodgrain after the cast-mold. The magic was the re-casting fella.
So, i wonder if the original cottage industry resource that did the casting, and the material used got "upgraded" in the past 8 years? |
