In the past, i have had a hard time finding the correct color match from the old lacquer to now enamel. I would like to see a new section on this forum listing correct paint, formula's,correct color names and years and brands that people have figured out.

My 73 GTO is Florentine red met. I painted it in 97 with Dupont Chroma base & clear. It doesn't look bad fro almost 20 years old but could use a redo as it's starting to show some age along with some scratches & dings.

When I bought my car for $500 back around 1988, I wanted to paint it black. After realizing it needed more body work then I could do and found out the original color was yellow....that's what I did. It's the original #76 Goldenrod Yellow painted around 25 years ago. Showing it's age but still looking good.
In the piant shop (my first): ![]() Now:

I'm sure this was the same in many years. IMO it just looks clean.

I have never seen a 69 Bird the yellow color & when I started to read the post my 1st thought was NOOOOO, but the yellow on the 69 Bird looks really good. If someone were to ask me without seeing it in yellow I would have said it wouldn't look good but seeing it has changed my mind it looks Great.

Carousel red, original paint. Trying to decide whether to have it painted or not - Has small rust hole in rear window, which prevents fixing headliner, etc until it is fixed... so that is prompting me to consider a repaint.

^^ I wouldn't paint it if it were me. I'd paint the bumper maybe and just spot the repair.

chrisp: more pics please. Looks NICE.
getmygoat: I agreed w/Greg, don't repaint the entire car. Just repair it as needed to stop further damage. They're only original once! Lately I've found myself admiring more and more original cars and cruises with "original" rust holes! Patina. There is no substitute. Isn't that what Tom Cruise said in Risky Business

VERY Nice!!! I remember a street rod that had paint like that back many years ago. I fell in love with it and still do. So subtle yet so impacting.
