Some of you have read my previous posts about the problems I have been having with my wipers and its just not getting any better. I finally broke down and bought all new components. I have a rebuilt motor that works, a new switch and new reproduction transmission. I have had a problem with every single original piece as I have went along so I have replaced them as I went but now today is just the culmination of a long defeat. I finally got my new wiper transmission and installed it. My wiper motor works beautifully when it is not hooked to the wiper transmission but when I hook it up it turns about a 1/4 of a turn and binds. I for the life of me cannot find where the linkage is binding. I take the arm loose, move the linkage, reset the motor, test the motor, everything works, try again and same result. I have literally been doing this over and over all day. Anyone got any suggestions? I give up!

So what do the wipers do with the wiper arms OFF? If you haven't tried, pull the arms off the splines and try them..... "Bill"!

this is the linkage binding, I havent even gotten to putting the arms on. The motor turns perfectly and parks perfectly as long as I leave the linkage off but as soon as I put the linkage on it it turns a 1/4 turn and binds but I cant find anything binding.

So lets see, there are only 2 linkage arms. One goes to the pass. side and the other goes from the pass. side to the dr. side. When mine are in the off position, the motor is stopped with the crank at 90 deg. or horizontal pointing to the dr. fender. The main arm going to the pass side is stamped like a U to give it strength, and the U faces the windshield, not the engine. The arm is held on with a spring clip. This all sound and look correct??? Are you sure you do not have one wiper arm going backwards??? Sorry if already been check but sound like something weird here. Take the arm off the motor and move without the cowl on and see what happens. Almost seems like something on backwards. By the way where did you get the rebuilt linkage. Never heard of any for a 64.

Is the arm on the motor the correct length ?

The linkage is now reproduced by dynacorn. It's listed for a chevelle and the guy that I ordered it from told me it was not for pontiacs but it's exactly like what I took off except it's a low quality Chinese part. I know it's something simple but it's driving me nuts. I haven't looked to see which way the arm is facing but I will when it ironically quits raining. The arm on the motor is the same one from my old motor that would drive them to the top of the windshield and freeze. I had them working with the old wiper transmission for about 15 minutes but it was in such bad shape it literally fell apart. The arm parks facing the drivers fender like it's supposed too

You said in off position, the lever on the motor was in a horizontal position at 90 deg. to the dr. fender and on the dr. fender side. Correct?? So let's move to the linkage. The arm connecting pass. side to dr. side should also be horizontal and at 90 deg. to the dr. fender and on the dr. fender side also. All 3 points must be at 3 o'clock, looking from the engine compartment, to be able to function without binding. If the lever on the motor is not correct, the 2 post positions will be off. "Bill"!

I've tinkered with it today and this dynacorn unit is really a cheap Taiwan piece o crap so I am sending it back. I bought an eBay unit specifically from a 64 tempest that is supposed to be here the 17th. I will install it as you described and if they don't work then I guess I will take it to our last real old school mechanic around here.

Well its a long story. When I bought the car the motor that was on it was junk. Bought a one speed motor after a LONG search and bolted it on. They worked for about 10 swipes and the linkage disintegrated. Order linkage off ebay. It was not any better than what I had to begin with, I mean it was so rusted I think they salvaged it from the bottom of a lake. Sent it back after a long dispute on Paypal with the seller. Ordered another set from ebay. It was missing the clips that hold the linkage together and I didnt notice. Worked for about 5 seconds and fell apart. Sent it back no problem guy was super nice. Ordered NEW repro from dynacorn. Needless to say it was overseas junk that binded the first time it was used. It would make a 1/4 swipe and lock the motor down. It would not make a full revolution no matter what I did, so I sent it back. Another paypal dispute. Then I found a set off a 66 on ebay that looked too good to be true. Bought them and paid a little more than I wanted too but paid less than I had for the Repro. They literally just fell onto the car and hooked right up. It was so easy I just knew they were not going to work. Well so far so good. Buttoned everything up and of course we are in a draught and all of NC is on fire so I got them fixed after I needed them but they are done. Sorry for the long post.
