Default New Best Today

I got my first 9 second time slip today. I was planning on running half track at my local track, and then going to MDIR on Sunday the 27th to stretch my legs. My local track cancelled the race due to weather. I decided to drag my junk to Richmond Dragway and run the 1/4 mile during their last test-n-tune of the season.

Pass #1 I had a slight stumble (first pass since 1 Oct) and run a 10.00 @ 136 with a 1.49 60'. After a minor carb adjustment, I had a good clean launch on the second & third pass. 9.87 @ 136 And 9.86 @ 136. The last pass I forgot to reinstall the fuel cell cap...it smelled really bad on the return road. Anyway, I guess I'll stay home and watch some football tomorrow, no reason to drag my junk to MDIR now.

DA was right at sea level, 175'.

Contacts that's moving. What was carb adjustment if you don't mind? I run e85 too and sometimes it doesn't want to come Up on the brake cleanly. Although I think it may be fuel related. I had some that was lower E than I thought

Opened all four idle screws another 1/4 turn, from 2 1/2 to 2 3/4.

Congratulations!! I know exactly how you feel!!!! I am still stoked on my first 9, you will be,too. After a couple of days you will start thinking on how to get to 9.70's.

What does you car weigh? I made some changes to my car and decided to drive to the co-op and weigh it, I was surprised to find out the 69 bird is heavy 3640 lbs. WITHOUT me in it, that would make 3840 race weight. So now I am curious of the weight of your car and if you removed any weight out of it.

Steve

Man, I am over here excited for you. I was about to go watch you race at MIR today. Glad you posted this. Richmond is only 1 hour from me, if you go back call me 703-615-5027 and I can get a few other Pontiac's out there and have our own Pontiac's in the Park event.

I'm also thinking about a Pontiac dyno day at my shop if I could get some people interested. There would be no charge as it is just another tool in the shop and not my primary business.

Thanks everyone!
I took about fifty lbs off my car last winter, it's now about #3350 when I'm staged and ready to race. I knew the weight loss helped lower my ET all through the year, but I didn't have a time slip to back it up. I missed the spring window to get the slip due to cancelled races and parts that needed rework. The day of my signature video I ran 6.32 three times (with my old wheels) so I knew it was faster. That's why I made a special trip to Richmond yesterday after my local track cancelled their "Last Man Standing" event. This was only the second time running 1/4 mile this year. I enjoy the thrill of the second half of the race track. This is the fastest this car will ever go most likely. It has a mild steel roll bar only, vice the required cage and associated safety gear. I have another car that will be certified to run much faster, it's a back burner kind of deal, but I'll finish it one day. This car will see street duty again with a 455, Muncie 4 speed and 410 gears, just like I drove it for decades.

I'm planning on attending Richmonds race on New Year's Eve this year. That dyno deal is tempting too. Thanks for the offer Steve!

CVMS & Dave Wilcox know what they are doing.

Yup. I can't justify running a roller cam when you can make enough power to split a stock block in half with a solid cam. My next engine (car) will step up to all the good stuff, until then I'll keep running the old school junk.
