I had that problem to with a nos one I had on my car for some time. There's three cables and they have like a round lead head on each end of the cables that hold them on the ends of each cable's to the control and inside the aluminum backing plate behind the mirror. One of the cable's on mine came loose from behind the mirror. The mirror is cut on a angle around the outside ,taper out towards the back of it so can crip the aluminum backing plate around the mirror. Found that out when trying to get mine out and chipped it. Had to brake it get out and I crimpped a electric terminal (back end ,cut front end of connector off, must be bigger then the holes in the aluminum backing plate). Had local glass place cut new mirror to the smaller outside diameter of of mirror plate so it would fit in, I forget how they made it stay on the backing plate, glued? I think it cost me $50.00 to have it done. You could also buy a old remote mirror and disconnect the cables on the end of control and put in your housing. You have to take it off to see if one of the cables came loose. Hope this helps some.
