My 78 weighs in at 3750 with me and Prostar wheels but to slow it down for the roll bar rule added the spare back in and DOTs on heavier 15x8 snowflakes. Unfortunately none of the tracks have had the scales on since I did that.
You are looking great!

[QUOTE=Steve C.;5658100]It's to bad they don't have the Pontiac Southern Nationals down here anymore at the Texas Motorplex you would have loved it.
Keep on rocking, Except the heat, PSN was a blast at a great strip, however having that event in the summer in Texas doesn't make it great time to put down a new best. One year I stayed home after months of getting my car ready. Just didn't feel like putting up with the heat again, and no body wanted to go with me anyway. Yep those were the days. Been years since I had my car on that track. Usually hit the local 1/8 the mile track. TAman, great combo you have put together. Thanks for sharing your experiences, really like to see more on shaker set up and cowl air inlet. |

455Grin..I don't have a shaker hood on this car.I have a fiberglass "twinturbo"style hood.It does give me more clearance.Torquewar(Andy)runs a factory hood and a shaker. He has a thread here,he runs a conical filter, factory shaker and I believe a modified base.He is able to use a spacer under his Holley with his Torker 2..I forget the thickness but I think its 3/4 inch.
On my old car with a factory shaker hood when using a Holley, one inch spacer and a Torker 2 I used a Moroso air pan with a "Dude" Scoop attached to it with a small filter inside for the street at the track I'd remove the filter. This is the current setup works pretty well especially when its cold out.

Ernie, I'm sure you know there's an aftermarket air cleaner available, originally d signed by a member here, Larry Navarro. Branded WFO air cleaner, similar to stock set, made to be used with an open shaker. I bought one years ago, have not used it yet. I think Butler sells them if Larry doesn't. Larry?

A few changes for next year starting with this.I'm also upgrading the rearend I'm leaning towards 3.42's which will still make the car very highway friendly but I'm not sure yet.

No not at all,its the way the block was just a veteran dragracer's bunch of parts that he had.Its overkill for my horsepower level but was offered at a very fair price complete.

Awesome!
3.23 is a real nice gear, still keeps the rev's down on the highway.

Just can't leave well enough alone? LOL. I went from 3.23(which I consider a great street gear) to 3.50. Revs only changed 100ish rpms at 65 mph with a 275 tire. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I got 3.70s which would be fine for the few road trips a year I do. So don't be afraid to get a little more gear!

Most likely sticking with the current cam.We will see what happens or what dumb idea I might have.Things have a tendency to snowball.

Do you currently have rpm left in the powerband? If you aren't crossing the finish line at 400 or more RPM lower than your shiftpoint, I'd keep the 3.08's. Traction might become more of an issue as well.
You are already changing the shortblock, change too many variables and you might waste a lot of time chasing your tail in circles, dialing it back in. BTW, your current combo is HEAVILY influencing what I'm planning on doing with my '73 ;-)
