Higher average torque than BBC.

Thanks.
BTW, me thinks if Curt listened to Mike,Scott and John he would still have a Pontiac in his car. Bet all he had to do was ask.
It was Chevrolet that kept Pontiac from being the top GM car brand. Think about what would have happened if Pontiac had been allowed to develop that 1970 427 SOHC hemi. It would have changed everything. They would have been chasing us and PONTIAC would still be around today.
Nothing but jealousy.
And our cars, year for year were always better looking.

It's hard to believe that you can buy an entry level Olds top end package for about half of what you'll pay for Pontiac stuff. There'd be a lot more Pontiacs staying in Pontiacs if this was available for at that price point.

I bet it is. don't waste time/money doing any more, they're going LS and BBC anyway.

If I ever kill my IAII, and there is no more available, there is an pretty stout aftermarket Buick block that I would consider.

Who would not like to have a 455 with a 3.90 stroke. Buicks oiling system is a trouble spot though. Bleeds pressure. Pickup that runs the length of the pan ? And pickup in front ?

Thank you for some good data. Do you think it would be the same result with the same builder on both? I would be surprised if it was uncle Tony vs uncle Tony.

Thanks for a good post.

Even if you get one you should make sure to check everything very closely. Check for cylinder wall thickness, casting core shift, over all casting quality and machining. Last block I just machined took .027 off the decks to make them straight and inline to crank tunnel... Not acceptable. Getting a block or set of heads, and getting a block or set of heads you can use are 2 different things.

Having owned 5 of the IA-Blocks over the years, 3 in service in other members cars presently, the bores always seemed, Chris, to have uniform wall thicknesses, the rough bores seemed to be straight to the crank, but the head surfaces needed some work occasionally to get them parallel crank centerline and square to the bore centerline.

You spec out the block first and then order the rods and pistons later.

Always is the inspection, detailing, checking, checking, checking, more checking process.

Now, you can say that an aluminum IA2-based engine would be lightweight as well but it would still be a bit heavier. Plus, if he blows up an engine, he could have another one waiting for him when he got home. The down time for a custom build like that would likely be months. As Tom Vaught mentioned, we only have so much time on this planet- you don't want to spend the majority of it on the sidelines.
Don you should do a Article on Roger Bolliger's 71 T/A Road Racer > Butler Pontiac power Aluminum IA II Block etc. Win's Races

Curt as we talked before I know exactly where you are coming from and what you have been going through all these years. I have been parked for 7 years because I committed to a Pontiac program and after achieving something increditable and very unexpected I was kicked to the curb, like others on this same program. In the past 7 years I have been offered 4 BBC blower motors, 2 BBC N/A motors for free. I can't switch, not yet. Good for you to make the switch. I love S/G and to be completive these days you have to run what 170MPH now, that takes a few HP and in T/S well you have to run at least 6:80s to qualify for any race around the States. There still are some good Pontiac Venders/suppliers/manufactures out there, PM me or call we will talk. Funny thing, talking about the really fast guys and why there isn't enough quality parts and quick turn around time, look at the links, Pontiac Race, 12, Pontiac Boost maybe 1, Pontiac Street 24 or more. So if you were a vender who would you try to sell to ??? Again good luck my friend, I will be keeping an eye on you and your son. If I could make a lame suggestion, don't put Chev for your engine, leave it blank.

Pontiac did make some of the first design spread port heads- along with Olds for the pro stock crowd -- that's close enough

Wish we had a Vintage race class where I could run an Aluminum block and basically unlimited cubes, along with his other mods.
I guess technically the M/P-1 class would be the closest, but I'd need to run period correct 15" wheel's, bias tires and somewhat period correct brakes.

STALLION, Hero words my good man. Hero words.
Send some HPs to Marcela and I bet you will be happy.
Screw the "Big Chief" heads.
You know, as a Native American calling those things Big Chief is offensive in two ways.
Say it now and will say it forever. A fast BBC is a fast BBC. Who cares, dime a dozen.
It was offered to you for free for a reason.

John Clegg runs some of those Pontiac Part Number BB CHEBBY heads in one of his firebirds. Short stroke big bore deal and is competitive in some areas of the USA.

Good luck with your new program

Hi Troy, thanks for the kind words. Been to Marcella's, Johns a nice guy.
Been talking to another head guy, another very nice guy. Working on something can't say right now but hopefully, maybe soon.
I also would say that N/A is a lot different than with power adder. The chassis and the hole drive train has to be perfect to get the results us N/A guys are looking for and want. I would say easier to add another system or 2, get 2 turbos instead of 1, or just give it more boost. Again good for you Curt that you will make the change to get what YOU want. Go racing, go fast, get a motor or parts when you want and pay a fair price for a good motor.
