455 ID questions

crank casting # 9799103 4X-1H heads with date codes K273 and L063 (Nov-Dec 1973?) pistons are .030 so it is not a virgin. Just trying to determine what I have since it has been apart already. Block markings: 22P335292 is this the VIN?? C223167 what is this number?? YH from what I have read, I think this is a 1972 block? Thanks in advance for the help, Dave |

Would be helpful to know the date code of the block on the pad by the distributor. Looking like a '72 casting, but having the code will confirm what it is.

Simple, only 455 cranks have a square cheek on them at the mid lenght point, besides the point that the block by casting number as you posted it is a 455 block.
That block was used more many years and if you look at the top of the block below the Distributor you will find the casting date. |

I will post the date code of the block later.
Wallace Racing site showed that Pontiac built a 455 in 1972 with 4X heads.... IIRC. |

The Boss is correct. Also, the heads are not original to the block based on their date codes alone, but they may have replaced the originals early on. Just a guess. ???

Thanks for the responses.
The date code on the 455 block is K051. So that would be Nov. 5, 1971? |

Yep.Cast in `71 for a `72 application. The 4x heads are not original to that block. NBD really.

No such thing as too much power? Tell that to your driveshaft when it comes thru the floor board even with a safety loop, lol!
