I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like he was a great man that you have looked up to for years. Be thankful for the good memories. I lost my father at a very young age, and the memories of my Dad seem like lost dreams...I am truly sorry for your loss. Be the best father you can be, your kids will love you for it and it will come around full circle one day.

If you have elderly family members considering surgery, be sure to ask their doctors about the effects of anesthesia on the elderly.
Sounds exactly like what happened to my dad.
I speak about that last statement all the time now.

Can't thank all of you enough.

Every thought posted means a lot, especially considering you don't know me.

I am humbled and honored you took the time to reach out and share your own experiences.

Got to visit my dad at Thanksgiving before his final slide, travelled back to his home in Colorado today where I'm blessed by my mom doing OK and surrounded by family. My sisters and I sat with mom and went through photos. Made more smiles than tears, which helped.

Will do when it sinks in more after the service. He grew up in Big Sky country, by the way (Billings), so just your location tag triggers lots of good memories.

I told my youngest son I can tell it's gonna get me whenever I do anything that would have involved him. Already missing his voice on the phone and I choked up when I saw some emails he had sent me. My son went home, then later posted a pic of a steak he cooked for dinner and said he'll miss cooking them for his grandpa... very cool.

Just read this again.. some good triggers:

He was a Marine

He had me building models when I was 5 or 6..

He taught me to tie flies. I still have some of his fly-tying stuff.

Thanks for reminding me how these things will keep him with me.

lost my Dad 10 years ago and I thought I would not think about him as time goes by.....but I was wrong, something happens everyday that makes me think of him.

from the other posts here, it looks like this is not unusual.

Hang in there, it will get better, and be sure to take care of your Mom.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad has been gone for nearly 20 years now, but every time I hear his words/expressions coming out of my mouth, I have to smile... I have remembered you and your family in my prayers.

My condolences. I lost my dad 31 years ago. We didn't get along that well (too much alike), but there's not a day I don't miss him.

Miss my Dad......lost him when I was 10. Heart attack. It was on first day of vacation in Hileah, FL in 1971. He rented a house for the summer. We were supposed to go to Disney World, I think it was the first year it opened. I still have the brochure he gave me.
Had a great summer in 1970 I always think on.....we did a cross country road trip Pittsburgh to Lake Tahoe. Him my little brother & I........remember the good times shiny!!
Feel sorry for your loss!! Take your kids on trips or do things they will remember when you are gone it will give them memories to think back on with a smile & a tear or two. Healing takes time.....God Bless

Shiny, my sincere condolences for the loss of your Father. If you can, pen down some thoughts that come to mind about your dad while they are fresh in your mind. Later on you can get the (Journal) out and remember the good times. This journal will also help keep the memories alive for future generations. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Rick

Sorry for your loss. They say we die twice. Once when the breath leaves our body, and once when the last person we know says our name.
