39 VIN location
I know the VIN is on the left frame rail but I can't find it. Is the left and drivers side the same? Is it under the battery tray? Is it a plate or just stamped into the frame?

On my '38 it is on top of the frame rail visible when looking in through the driver's hood. The VIN is stamped near the firewall if I remember correctly.

It wasn't there! But, I found it on the front cross member behind the radiator and under the metal fuel line. All I had to do was pull the radiator, bend the fuel line out of the way and clean 78 years worth of crud off of it. Now I can get it registered in my name. That is, if this is the serial number.

You found it. Read "First Serial Number" here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/a...in-jpg.801345/ The leading "C" describes which plant the car was built at.

Bill, I read that. The car was built in Southgate, California which supports the story the seller told me. He bought the car from the original owners family. They told him the first owner drove the car from California to here in 1939 or 40. Here is southwest Georgia.
