Default 65 grand prix headlight switch

Having issues with the headlight switch. I can only get the dash lights to come on when i turn the knob all the way to the left, which also turns on the dome light. The dash lights will not come on otherwise. Any ideas why its doing this..Thanks

There's a potentiometer in the headlight switch that controls the dash lights, and it's probably dirty so electrical contact is lost. Pull the switch out, and clean the circular copper part of the potentiometer with a pencil eraser.

Edited to add: It looks something like this (this is apparently a switch for a GTO but the full size cars should be similar.)

It's that spiral spring thing, there's a copper wiper that rubs against it. Clean the surface of the spring, and make sure the wiper is making good contact.
