I wonder how much of their bandwidth it ties up if you leave your pictures, even after copying to another media, and forcing them to post the pegged dial in place of your picture?

I would think bandwidth is bandwidth.

Here's the notice they sent me AFTER they shut off my pictures about a week previous to the notice.

Quote:
WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*
PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN.

Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level.
UPGRADE NOW

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.
Why Photobucket?

Photobucket is the global destination for linking and 3rd party hosting. In Photobucket’s 14-year history, the Company amassed over 100 million registered users, over 15 billion images stored, 2 million daily uploads and 10 billion photos accessed monthly.

Easy to Use – Upload a photo from any device and copy the embed code with one click to host a photo with no development or technical knowledge required

Competitive, fixed pricing Offers the only unlimited 3rd party hosting plan (Commercial and Personal Use)
Are my pictures still safe?

Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on 3rd party sites.
Can I download my Photos?

Absolutely, at any time. It is an easy four step process:

Step 1. Login to your Photobucket Account

Step 2. Navigate to your library page

Step 3. View a photo and click the download button

Step 4. The picture will be saved to your computer

You have to be joking, do you really think any sane person would pay your ransom?

You have also rendered many technical threads much less helpful by pulling the pictures on thousands of websites on the www.
The greed your company has shown with total disregard for the people you chose to give free accounts to and the disruption you have caused to millions of threads is astounding. Your associates have killed the goodwill you fostered by offering free accounts then withdrawing the offer in order to extort money from the people that took you up on the free account offer.

A terrible decision on your part, maybe you would reconsider a more reasonable monthly fee, I have seen many people that would be open to a much smaller fee to restore their pictures to vital threads all over the www. In the quest to extort money from people you offered free accounts to you have created so much bad publicity for yourselves it is unprecedented.

Sincerly, Brad Yost

I got the E-mail yesterday. I will leave my pictures there because I already have them on my computer. I save all my pictures to my computer then choose which ones to upload to photobucket.
Brad, hopefully your reply will be read and they will re think their position on this issue.

I probably have between 600~700 pics on photobucket to draw from. If I store all of those on my computer, it wouldn't be a big problem, per-se, but I'd have to resize most any of them before attaching here. That's a PIA. PB did that automatically.
Here is what I do for this forum.
1. Take the pic of say a Pontiac Block Code with a Samsung smart phone at 12MP ( Megapixels)
2. Either direct cord, or wireless download to my desktop.
3. Open the picture on say "PAINT" ( there are many viewers you can use for this) which is a JPG and beacuse its a JPG and the way JPG are saved, its a stacked file, so it only takes up 6 MP ( Mega pixels) of "floor space"
4. I then Reduce the photo by 80% making it 20% of what it was , so its now around 1.2 MP file. ( 1 . 2 MP)
5. This size File is perfect for PY Forums. It will Not fill a screen and make the text so long you have to move screen to right because the pic is so big.
6. Then I make the post, or reply to thread and used advanced and upload it.
7. I DELETE the photo from my Desktop.
8. Now it shows up as a thumbnail, and Its Not on my Computer, I click the thumbnail, and make it big. Then I Right click it and copy to my cursor the "Image location"
9. Then close the pic and open "Edit your post" After the text I simply use HTML and link the pic to its Host( PY forums)
Looks like this ( which Photobarf had already done when you copy it.)
[IMG] the Image location from your cursor ( right click and paste it here) [/IMG]
10 Done! Now pic shows nice and normal, and the thumb is still available. I am not hosting it and PY doesnt get overloaded with pics that are actually over 2 foot wide.

1. It gives you a bigger pic, when you open those tiny pics and try to see it goes back to the small pic,
2. I can take it down if I like, here you can't edit after a few min. I just don't post pics anymore.

Photobucket hit me today. Says I have to upgrade.. as in pay.. to use the img tags to post photos 3rd party. I will be ending my use with them soon. It's all about the money they want to take from us. I understand it takes money for servers but, My account is no where near the limits for their free account. Oh well, there's others out there.

That is the alternative way of doing it alright and it works every time...BUT, when you look at all those steps and compare to what PB was giving us, it's no wonder we were 'attached' to that method. It went like this-
1. Take your photo
2. Upload to PB (No need to resize)
3. Copy the 'imbed' link and post it here.
Done.

I have Amazon Prime for movies, and I just saw I get free Amazon Photo with that. When I have time I will look into... In thinking lately about this whole deal, I think we are worrying a whole lot about a maybe 10% better thing (full size outside host pics vs PY thumbnail / click pics)

It is nice to save the click time and properly sized pics inbedded are great. BUT>>>>
Some people post too big and create a scroll bar on bottom. Thread killer.
Signature pics bigger than thread pics are grating with repeated posts
I do miss the big Craigslist psycho car pics big!

It's not so much losing the ability to embed pics that's upsetting folks. It's all the now useless archived threads. Some great info lost there.
I've got Prime too. I'll have to look into that.
I'm in 100% agreement on the giant poster size pics. Can hardly wait til the thread count extends to another page when that happens.

you are right brother! I was splitting this into two issues, I guess, so disgusted on the thread loss and wrote it off, I was just looking at the present functionality thing.... Photobucket was so nasty anyway, I suspect viruses floated on that site....

Saw this nice '72 in Sedona on Saturday as I was driving out of town. Kentucky plates. Wondering if the owner is member.

Bruce, I reduce the size of my photos to 30% and they're around 56 to 96 KBs max in size. I still can't use the img tags.

Is there anything else out there to use for free other than Flicker? I used my Hotmail address and they don't like that and won't recognize it. I can't get into the account I created. I guess that's why they wanted me to create a Yahoo email account. And I will NOT!

Gary, I'm using Google photos but seems that some can't see them.
How many can see this pic?
